I have a 2000 Jaguar S type 3.0 and it runs and drives great. When I come to a stop the cars idle jumps up and down between 500 -1000 rpms and it dies. Any idea as to what is going on?

IAC - idle air control problem possibly .( You can drive it if you use your left foot to brake but keep the gas pedal down to keep the RPMs up.) Wouldn't be a fuel filter , if fuel filter was clogged partly it would idle ,but would lack power ,low fuel pressure at higher speed's . Do you know what IAC valve is ,an how it works ?

Or maybe the EGR valve pintle is covered with carbon an sticking open .
Or possibly a dirty or bad MAF sensor - mass air flow sensor - the PCM - engine computer needs info from this sensor so it know's how much fuel to feed the engine .
Hooking up a professional type scan tool to view engine sensor data cut's down on guessing as too what the problem is .

Check for trouble codes. You can get this done free at most car part stores.

run fault codes to check for accelerator position sensor problems . Check for vacuum leaks. If cable accelerator then check that the return spring on the end of the cable is attached and not missing.

run fault codes and look for faults in idle sensor---MAF sensor

run the fault codes
check for vacuum leaks on all vacuum hoses
check fuel pressure
use quality injector cleaner

Check vacuum leak from hoses, intake manifold, PCV valve, carburetor base gasket and survey booster.

my monterosport 2001 runs great till you come to a stop sign the rpms drop and it dies start it back up revs itself and rpms drop and it dies. we can start it up rev it and it clearsup and idles but later on when you come to a stop it dies again we have cleaned the egr valave and still same thing could the tps be the problem or what?

well i would have the catalic converter checked if it's clogged it would cause this.

sound very much like a vacuum leak.... also maybe your timing is off? possibly advanced? try retarding it with the distributor if thats the case...
