HI, follow the steps below to help with this issue.

Step 1

Disconnect the negative battery cable from the terminal on the battery. Remove the upper and lower steering column covers by unscrewing or unclipping them.

Step 2

Remove the steering wheel by lifting off the center cover, disconnecting the horn wire and removing the retaining nut and washer. Make a mark on the steering wheel spline and the wheel itself so you can line it back up precisely. Pull the steering wheel straight back to remove from the shaft.

Step 3

Take off windshield wiper and turn signal switches by pulling them off as you did the steering wheel and disconnect the wiring. Slide the spacer sleeve off of the steering column.

Step 4

Unscrew the ignition switch mounting screws. Pull out the ignition switch. Disconnect the wiring connector from back of the ignition switch. Simply loosen the tabs and pull it out.

Step 5

Insert your key into the ignition. Turn the ignition switch to the locked position. Depress the retaining pin with a small screwdriver and turn the key to the Off position to free the cylinder. Once it is free, turn the key to lock position and remove the key and key cylinder.

Step 6

Install your old key cylinder into the new ignition switch assembly. Make sure the contacts in the cylinder and assembly line up. Reattach wiring to ignition switch, slide it into place, screw in mounting screws and reassemble steering wheel and switches.

    NOTE***

These steps may vary slightly or additional removal of some equipment
such as a tilt steering column lever may be required based on the make
and model of your vehicle. Consult with your dealer or manual for
    details.

1991 f150 starts but must hold key on to stay running i turned key on and off atleast 100 times to rid my tank of bad gas also i'am running off my battery

It sounds like you need to replace the ignition starter switch, the symptom you have is an exact fit, most models of Ford where recalled years ago for this problem.. The starter switch is at the base of the steering column under the dash and operated by a rod from the ignition key tumbler. Very cheap and easy to replace.

Remove steering column shroud 1991 f150to replace ignition switch

Not sure if I remember right or not, but I believe you remove the horn, steering wheel, etc., and get at it from the end, not by taking the shroud off. But not completely sure anymore.

Where is my eec computer located on my 1991 f150 300 straight 6 my fuel pump wont shut off with keys in my pocket. i already replace the ignition switch and fuel pump rely. any suggetions on what it could...

It is in the front seating area, driver side, behind dash, upper corner, mounted on dash with support brackets. I don't think the computer would fix your problem. Does the fuel pump quit running when you remove the relay? It sounds more like a wiring problem, like a wire that should be getting ignition battery, (going to the fuel pump), is getting constant battery. I would check the wiring for the fuel pump relay.

There is a linkage in the steering column which interlocks with the ignition switch. On a vehicle this age, and given that Ford is prone to this problem, look here first. The pot-metal linkage rod often breaks.

Where is the fuel shut off switch on 1991 ford 150?

On a 1991 F-150 the Fuel Shut Off Switch is located on the left and above where the steering column passes through the floorboard.

1. Turn the Key in the ignition to OFF.
2. Push the Red Reset Button on the Fuel Pump Shut Off Switch
Down.
3. Turn the ignition Key ON for a few seconds, Then turn it OFF,
Now try to start it.

My 1994 f150 ignition switch will turn the truck on but won't turn it off. Also the switch is very loose, does this need to be changed or tightened?

The plastic ignition actator (plastic gear drive) has lost the steel pin pressed on the end of it. This thing connects the mechanical key ignition switch to the electrical ignition switch(with pin gone will push ignition on BUT with pin gone cannot PULL ign. switch to off position),the whole steering column will have to be removed from truck to replace.Availible from Ford or parts stores--ASK for plastic ignition actuator-metal one is for 1987 to 1991 F150s.
