Did you drain the gas tank? The gas is _baaaad_ after a year.

If it is very low on gas, you can skip draining and add 10 gallons of _Premium_ gas. After adding good _Premium_ gas, disconnect the gas line to the motor, and crank the engine to pump out about a quart (to clear the lines of bad gas).

It wouldn't hurt to add a couple of cans of ''dry-gas'' (water remover) to the tank _before_ adding the 10 gallons of _Premium_ gas.

Then it should start. If not, remove spark plugs and make sure they are not wet with bad gas. If so, crank the engine with no plugs (mark the wire numbers) to air dry the cylinders. You can use a lighter to dry the plugs (be far away from the car). It's good to have them hot anyway for the first startup. Reinstall the plugs, and _then_ it should start.

Good luck...

SOURCE: my engine shuts off while im driving

Check ecm for number 1228253. If it has this one in it you will have a cutting off problem. Gm replaced these with #16198264 The cam sensor magnet on the cam gear will deteriorate and give problems. This will require removal of the timing cover.

SOURCE: 96 chevy tahoe won't start?

Mine did this with a cap and rotor. I changed it six months prior, but ended up having a faulty cap from Jegs which caused it to backfire. I had crank, spark, fuel, but the cap was crossfiring and wouldn't run.

This cost me a new flexplate, two starters, still a cap and rotor just due to the backfires.

SOURCE: 2002 chevy express fuel pump/crank sensor?? not starting

i had a similar problem and called the dealer during lunch hour. i talked to a mechanic, the distributor in these vehicles is plastic, and is prone to cracking.not just the cap but the body also, I have been taking the cap off and wiping the moisture out of the cap. or replacing the cap but the problem is I need a new distributor. just a cheep way to get rolling is cleaning the inside of the cap, especially when it is very damp or the outside temp changes alot during the day. good luck.

SOURCE: 98 chevy cavalier cranks but wont start changed

try to start the car, than the anti theift would shut the car off. you wait ten min with the key on, until you see the anti theift flash or disapear. than turn key to off position and try to start it. this will reprogram the computer.. Good luck.

you can also try disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes

1992 F350-7.3 4wheel drive is hard to start after changing fuel filter and fuel pump. Why is it hard to start?

indicates fuel leak back and fuel pressure drop
check filter installation for seal not sitting properly, loose fuel line fitting , pump installed correctly (flow wise ), filter installed correctly (flow wise)
air getting in to fuel lines
the thing you are looking for is indicated by the initial hard start but when started runs ok ( good fuel to the engine eventually) and then by the fact that if the engine is allowed to sit for a long period the problem returns meaning that the fuel pressure is not being held
could even be a problem fuel pressure regulator allowing the fuel to bypass ( no pressure =hard starting) then gets enough pressure to run ok but allows that pressure to drain off over time

I have a new battery. i have changed the fuel

I'm guessing you checked the fuses already, so if you have spark at the plugs, look for a vacuum leak. If you still suspect the fuel pump, do a fuel pressure test.

Car wont start

I can only say that for the old cars even sitting for a year is not healthy, because most parts of engine, starting system, charging system will get corroded/deposited. Most probably you will need to change battery, motor oil, fuel, spark plugs, check the starter and alternator. Also check the fuel pump, fuel filter. First shot would be battery, fuel, spark plugs and starter.
