SOURCE: Overdrive light flashing on my 1994 Lexus ES300/speedometer quit

I bet money on the tranny speed sensor being the problem- I think NAPA has em for about $100 bucks or so, but that has been a while. Good luck

SOURCE: willnt start

This problem is normally caused by a faulty ignition module, which is located inside the distributor. They seem to be a weak point on Mazda 323s of this era. Open the distributor, and remove the rotor button. There is a round plastic cover over the ignition module, which must be removed. The ignition module is semi circular, and has four wires attached to it, via small screws. Take note of the location of each wire, and unscrew each one. The ignition module can be unscrewed with a phillips head screw driver, and removed. When fitting the replacement module, you must cover it with the heat sink compound that is supplied with the new module (mechanics sometimes refer to this compound as ignition module grease). Without the heat sink compound, the new module will over heat, and burn out. You should be able to replace the module in 15 minutes, it is very easy to do.

SOURCE: Can a bad output speed sensor cause a transmission to leak?

There is a small o-ring seal so I would say it is possible

The sped ometer and odometer has quit, now i notice sometimes the transmission does not shift from first without stopping placing it in park. Turn off switch and start over and it will down shift at times

depending on the model and year there are so many sensors and solenoids on the trans and engine that it is going to be hard to fix without a scan tool.......but if this started at the same time the odometer and the speedo quit working i would be looking at the speed sensor in the trans and then the speed sensor that is made in the speedo head that both can make the speedo head and the odometer not work......i hope that this info will help you and if ican be of any other help let me know.......let me and fixya know if this was any help to you and a thumbs up would be appreciated.....good luck and have a blessed day............

What transmission fluid should is use for a Madza Lantis 1996

Go to any auto parts store you feel comfortable with and they will know the proper fluid!
If your trans isn't working 100% you may want to add Lucas Trans also!
