There is no adjustment for the trunk release lever/cable. If it doesn't work there is a problem with the cable being broken/disconnected from the trunk lock assembly.

I don't have a key for the trunk and the trunk release lever is not working. How can I get the trunk open?

The rear seat backing will have to be removed to access the paneling and lock assembly to open if the lever/remote is non functioning. Sometimes banging with your fist just above the lock while someone operates the release lever will open the trunk

The trunk release lever will not open the trunk. the trunk will open when the key is used but not by the release lever.

So, when somebody else pull the cable, do you see the latch move back and forward from the trunk? There is nothing complicated about a manual cable, it just pull the cable and there should be a reaction to it. If there is no action from the latch, no movement at all, then the cable is just broken. If there is a little movement, not enough to pull the latch to open the trunk, you still need to replace the cable.

emergency release is connected directly to latch release ---the linkage rod may be disconnected ,latch may need lube --spring damaged or disconnected latch simple enough to replace junk yard cheapest --online,auto stores -or dealer most expensive

My trunk won't pop open when I lift the trunk release lever

you can adjust the tension by moving one or both bars. on one end it should sit in one of three notches. I have moved mine by hand but you may need a screwdriver or pry bar on some cars. also depending on the car, you may want to put something to protect your rear window. As some have alot of tension and may spring out, and hit the window. Just try different positions till you get your desired effect. And a last note sometimes the bars become bent or really weak from use. And may require to be replaced. If so then they can be ordered from the dealer.

The trunk will not open when you pull the lever

this trunk is designed that there a position of the trunk lock that locks that inside handle, some car also use a lever at the latch to disable the inside trunk release,im 1 sure this car uses the trunk lock, take a look and see if you lock out the inside release. if the lock window where you put the key in is pointing at 3 or 9 oclock then its locked the inside release if its at 12 or 6 oclock then the inside release should work and then the cable may be bad, good luck.

Trunk won't close (cont'd)

Ok try this:Open the trunk.
Pry off the dayglo cover to the emergency release lever.
Unsnap the release lever and unhook the cable.
Make sure the cable nipple isn't catching on anything.
Try the trunk now.
If it's like my car, the emergency release cable is too short, not allowing the lock to cycle through.
This is just a test to find the problem. I wouldn't be running around without the handle in place, especially if you have kids. With mine, I ground the back of the nipple away but there's probably a better way.
Good luck, Let me know if it helps.
