Had a service light come on so plugged in obd 2 it read code p0003 had spark plugs changed, bwd cap, rotor and wires.. Drove for 4 days and came on again? 96 Chevy suburban. K1500 what can it be ;(

Try a different scanner, that code is for fuel volume and shouldn't come up on a gasoline engine.

What causes cylinder misfire on a 5.3 chevy engine

It is possible that while making the knock sensor repairs you damaged a spark plug wire. Folks don't change these often, and with the high temps under hood on modern lean running engines, these should be changed every three or four years.

This is a random misfire of all the engine cylinders, the causes are many and each must be diagnosed to fix the problem. If you click this LINK you will go to the best info I know of for diagnosing the problem.

Change the spark plug wire also. This is often looked over but it has most to do with a miss fire then a spark plug 9 times out of 10

You either have a bad spark plug wire or coil pack. The light gray color on plug is normal.

#5 cylinder misfire

I have a corolla and had #4 cylinder misfire also diagnosed at autozone. After changing the spark plugs, problem persisted, along with the same error code, so they recommended changing the spark plug wires, and that is what fixed it. I would have changed the rotor cap too, but was low on dough. Glad that was not the problem.

Hi Eric

I would check to make sure a plug wire hasn't been crossed.
It could be a bad plug wire right out of the box, but this happens rarely.

If it is only doing this in overdrive lock up, tap the brake if it quits see a transmission man your torque converter might be bad

Is this a 5.7? They are notorious for intake manifold gasket leaks. When mine did it, the diagnostics blamed it on an ignition misfire also! Replaced the gaskets and it runs smooth!
