Normally there are bolts on the latch and in the pins on the tailgate itself. You might have to adjust all 4 of them in order to make the rattling stop

2015 Sorento. Rear hatch closes but won't fully latch.

The striker probably needs adjusting - if it is a double sneck latch move the striker out a little and if it is just a single sneck latch it will need moving in.

A tailgate or rear hatch usually closes on to adjustable rubber buffers that often lose adjustment due to them "walking" over time. The aim is to strike a balance between the correct latching of the tailgate and pressure on the rubber buffers so the tailgate doesn't rattle and the finished position is where the gap between the tailgate and body is equal all the way around.

How do you adjust the tail gate to stop the annoying rattle when driving?

Most rattles are due to the back door not closing tight enough. There is a lock/striker that the door lock assembly latches to. Usually the striker/latch is bolted to the rear floor/bumper area and the screws/bolts securing it can be loosened and the striker/latch moved forward and retightened which in turn will cause the door to be tighter stopping any rattles. You may also have a rattle inside the door assembly itself or loose paneling causing this issue

My 05 navigator tailgate will not lock on the second locking point and if i touch the door it will reopen

Most likely cause is a loose latch. Inspect both the hook on the door and the latch for looseness or signs that the latch has shifted on the mounting point. If it is loose, see if you can put back in the original position and tighten. If not loose, might just need an adjustment.

Adjust tailgate

you need to check for loose/missing latch and hinges screws and replace and retightened them all. If the hinges or latch have loosened due to body work problem/corrosion that would have to be fixed first.

Tailgate on my 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid rattles constantly regardless of speed. Any suggestions?

Hi Jim, You may need to check the hinges and adjust the locking mechanisms. If the door has a spare attached the weight can damage the hinges. Regards John
