If its a 6 disk cd system the cd tray is wedge causing the cd option to not work. Most of the time one of the cd slipped out of its position causing it to wedge
bad player. or cd stuck inside, read CD player manual for how to service said player. many players have a method to eject , with no power applied. or on some, take total dismantle. RTM
I have the same problem with my stereo in my '98 Blazer. in the manuel there is instructions on how to reset the stereo. it's a lenghty process, but it normally works until you turn the stereo off.
