Starter solenoid
Removing the battery cable erases all trouble codes and freeze frame data. Dont do it! If the car wont start unless you unplug the battery, then likely a computer is locking up and preventing restart, but you need to codes and data to determine which system is the cause.
Generally, body modules can only cause NO START issues if they are also tied in with vehicle security, and not all of them are. Its vehicle specific. Body modules only in the rarest of occasions can stall a vehicle, usually related to network shorts feeding back and shutting down the engine module or some such. If your car stalls after its been running more than 10 seconds, I would concentrate on the engine module and engine systems 1st for diagnostic purposes.
I highly recommend this be done with a good scantool by an experienced mechanic. You will want to see what the critical sensors say when it stalls and doesnt restart. There may be no obvious faults or codes set(Hopefully there are!), so basic engine tests (Spark, fuel pressure, injector pulse) would also be good tests at that tyme. Unless you have ruled engine issues out, I wouldnt go to the body module 1st UNLESS you have a flashing security lamp (a sign of a security fault), or a scan has shown security or anti-theft codes; or body codes that are critical level. (IE Module internal fault, engine control communication disrupted, etc).

BCM --The Body Control Module is located on the right side of the vehicle and positioned under the instrument panel. In order to gain access to the module, it will be necessary to first remove the trim panel.

SOURCE: 2002 Buick LeSabre shows 3 trouble codes:
P0300 is random engine misfiring. Could be several problems. My car had this and I replaced the plugs and plug wires. No change. Checked the three coil units. They seemed ok. I used a new on in each spot and nothing changed. Ended up being the ignition control module that sits under the coils. Relatively easy to change. Costs around $150 at the parts store. This may correct the other codes.

Hello t_odge1381: My name is Roger and I will help you. To locate the BCM remove the passenger side instrument panel insulator.Disconnect the negative battery cable. (NOTE, Be sure to record the radio access code so you can unlock when done) You should be able to see the BCM tucked up behind the dash panel. Will have three wire pack connectors. You can not just take a BCM from a salvage vehicle and install in your car. Whether it is new or rebuilt it has to be programed to your specific automobile.Otherwise the computer will lock it self out.So to replace it you must find someone who can program the BCM for your car. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer. This way I know it was helpful. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger
