My engine light is on, my speedometer sometimes works and sometimes doesn't register, some times it bounces back and forth.

code p 500 refers to vehicle speed sensor (VSS) --circuit malfunction====causes ---wiring---VSS sensor---ECM
the engine light reports serious faults with both the engine and the transmission
I would go to an accredited auto transmission shop and have the VSS replaced or checked
The VSS drives the speedo, cruise control, gear changes ( reports to the transmission control module (TCM)

Code po500 will not clear, speed sensor replaced

You could have a bad wire going to the sensor or the PCM is not configured to the tire size that you have on the truck. So if you have put bigger tires on you truck, it may be causing the problem.
I hope this helps you locate the problem

How to replaced toyota sienna abs sensor

I had a P0500 code on my 2006 Toyota Sienna AWD limited edition. I changed the speed sensor and now it will not change gears. Does the transmission need to be reset or is there another issue I am missing?

My dodge caravan 3.3L shows 5 malfunction codes what do they mean po455 po846 po500 po700 po732

P0455 = Evap leak monitor large leak detected.
This code usually means the gas cap may have been loose or needs the rubber gasket.

P0500 = No vehicle speed sensor signal.
Vehicle speed sensor is located on the transmission near one of the axle shafts (it may need replacing).

P0700 = EATX controller DTC present.
This simply means you have transmission related codes.

P0732 = Gear ratio error in 2nd gear.
This code is of some concern, it means the transmission is slipping in 2nd gear. However the trans may be in limp mode due to the speed sensor code (limp mode means the trans starts out in second gear in order to at least get to a mechanic). The first thing I would do is have these codes cleared as there may be absolutely nothing wrong with the transmission (especially if you pull the trans dip stick and the fluid does not have a burnt smell. The vehicle should drive normally after that. If the check engine light comes back, have the codes scanned ASAP (before any other unrelated code sets). Chances are it may be the output speed sensor if this happens (easy fix). Hope this helps

I failed inspection because of code 500. If I replace my sensors will that automatically cure the problem? It also failed for code 734 which I have no clue what that means...

PO500 First off if you have replaced your tires with an incorrect size then that is your problem. If not the PO500 possibly means the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) may be bad or the wiring is frayed or loose. I would reset the code and see if it comes back while at the same time inspecting all the wiring. PO734 Transmission 4th gear slipping. This may be why you have code PO500. You need to immediately seek out a transmission expert and have this looked into before the transmission is toast.

I have 1998 Nissan Frontier with an engine light on. I paid a mechanic to put in a speed sensor and the light came back on the day after he put in the new part. The codes before he worked on the truck were...

the PO 325 code is for VSS vichicle speed sensor and PO500 is for a knock sensor,so you will need to see what the new code is to be able to help you, the engine power manegment is controled by both get it scanned by autozone or the mechanic that did the work and see if it's the same code, if it is you may have a short or an ecm going bad. let us know what codes you find.
