How to adjust rocker arm on a 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis

We have the same problem on our 97 Grand Marquis. We have replaced the wiper blades and the drivers wiper arm with a used one. The problem was not completely solved but it did work better. We are going to replace the arm with a new one and see if that works better.

Your going to have to take the car to get an alignment, they will tell you if there is a problem, and if there is they don't charge, but they let you know whats needed.

The splines on the wiper transmission that attach to the wiper arm could be worn out or VS. replace either the wiper arm or trans. Try grabbing one of the wipers and try to move it buy hand, if it moves freely that's your proplem. The other reason could be the wiring for the wiper motor or the motor itself.

If your'e just removing the wiper blade, check for a "release lever" where the wiper attaches to the arm, push (or pull) the lever and pull down on the blade at the same time. Do the opposite to install, except you do not have to push the release lever.
If you are removing the whole arm, there is a special tool that you slide under the arm that releases it from the 'gear'.

Remove the valve covers. Inspect each rocker arm for wear, cracks or other damage, check the rocker arm abd dykcrum for wear, replace with new ones, they can"t be adjusted.

JacDempsey, how about shocks/struts? If they are bad, that could be what u need to cruise the highway nice and smooth the way a Grand Marquis should.
