I had the same problem. The solution is simple; the ignition switch needs to be replaced. This is an easy do-it-yourself project. Here are instructions:

Check for a switch on ebay, they are about $15. After 10 years they wear out.

SOURCE: 2006 vw jetta tdi service engine light reset

With the key in the ignition (but not turned), press and hold the Odometer Reset Button on the right hand side of the panel. While still holding that button, turn the key (although not far enough to start the engine) and then press and hold the Minute button on the left side of the instrument pane(if pressing doesnt work try turning the knob clockwise until service light has gone off and skip the pressing)l. Release both buttons at the same time.

SOURCE: red oil light flashing, oil change no problem but

Yes it is related, don't drive it. First thing you should do is install a new oil filter even if it isn't time for an oil change.

SOURCE: 2001 vw jetta gs :check engine light goes on and off

sounds like a faulty sensor tripping and reconnecting.. the next time the light comes on, take it to an advance auto store or an auto zone, they can read your codes for free... this will tell you what is being tripped, that way you know exactly what you need to get checked and/or fixed instead of a mechanic poking around trying to find everything thats NOT wrong. but if you are not expeiriencing any difficulty with the car, you should be fine. the check engine light actually means alot less than most people think. its usually a transmission or emissions sensor, or even as simple as leaving your gas cap off after filling and then driving for awhile.

I have a 2003vw jetta the epc light is on and the will not come out of park nor the stop lights come on,I have already changed the brake switch and still won't work..

EPC light should have nothing to do with the shift interlock,(EPC is traction control) should be a small cap or plug on the console, near the shifter that has the interlock disengage button, usually done with a key, check shift interlock in the owners manual.

Have 2000 VW Jetta, turning signal stops working intermittently. starts signal then stops blinking during turn or sometimes it works fine, sometimes won/t. all bulbs working & all other functions on...

I pulled my switch out of the dash and sprayed it with contact cleaner. Air dry and put back in. 2 years without a problem. If you're not electrical savy, I'm pretty sure there was a recall on that, and it should be replaced for free.

2005 VW Jetta TDI Wagon: Left brake light doesn't

Very difficult. You have to open the inside access door on the drivers side, remove the amp and wheel well cover, pinch the tabs and the bulb cluster will release. The taillight assembly is bolted from inside of the car, so it can't be done outside.

Looking for the fuse box for lights on a VW Jetta

all the fuses on an mk3 vw such as yours, are under the dash on the drivers side. they are kind of a pain to get to, but if you look under the steering wheel, above the gas and brake pedals, there is a little door that opens, the door has a diagram showing which fuses are which. usually the fuses dont go though, have you checked the bulbs?

1991 vw jetta manual shows fuse #3 controls

I would check the ground for the plate lights. You have to remove the steering wheel and dash trim to get to the cluster for removal. Let me know if you need to know how to remove the cluster.
