Agreed. The fuel pump is located in the gas tank on that vehicle. There is a fuel pressure test port located in the fuel rail near the power steering pump pulley.

My GMC Sierra ran out of gas and now I can't get it to stay running.

Fuel injectors require a high pressure fuel pump which is located in the gas tank. The gas serves as the lubricant for the pump, so wen you ran out and emptied the tank completely you no longer had lubricant and the pump burn out. It won't pump gas now because it's the fuel pump is burned out and needs replacing. It runs when you put fuel in the injectors as that bypasses the pump. Replace the pump and the never let the tank get below 1/8th full (half a 1/4 of a tank). Not lie the old low pressure fuel pumps on the side of the engine blocks. Not cheap to buy a fuel pump and have to drop the tank to replace the burned out one. $$$ in costs even it you do it yourself.

1998 gmc 2500 sle 5.7 wont stay running

Theres only one fuel pump relay, unless you have dual tanks. Be sure you have 55-60 psi fuel pressure. I "think" the oil pressure switch supplies power to the fuel pump after the engine is running.

The car wont stay running when in the run possion

OK lets start with this..

I am guessing that when you say possion you are meaning you gear selector and when you put it in say drive.

If that is the case.....

Your problem is most likely the fuel pump relay or fuel pump itself.
Start with checking, or have it checked, the fuel pressure at the fuel rail.

If the pressure is low then a fuel pump can be suspect. There are then other test which have to be performed to see where the exact problem is.

04' Sedona ran out of gas- now won't stay running

fuel pump is burned out from running out of gas, the pump is cooled by the gas it sits in inside the fuel tank, when you run low on fuel or out of gas you over heat the pump severely and the bearings in the pump seize up, have seen it dozens of times in my 30 years of dealer work.

Ran out of gas car wont start

first make sure theirs enough gas in the car now, about 5 gallons. next open the gas door, then the cap. next put your ear to the open fule filler neck. then have someone put the key in the "on" position so teh dash lights up and all, but dont start. this should trigger the pump to start, if you can hear a buzz then the pumps on and working, if not the pump is dead.if this is the case just be sure by checking the fuses to confirm. only way to get to the pump is drop the tank. also dropping the rear exhaust helps too.

99 gmc wont start

check electric fuel pump operation ( located in the fuel tank ). Occasionally a fuel pump will burn out when running out of fuel, due to the fact the pump runs DRY for about 30 seconds till the fuel stops flowing out of the injectors, the engine quits, simultainously losing oil pressure which FINALLY shuts off the fuel pump. Sometimes TOO LATE. Hope this helps

Car wont start after running out of gas

Try a new fuel filter. you most likely sucked up some junk or maybe water from the tank when it ran out. Check fuel pump make sure it runs.

1992 plymouth grand voyager wont stay running

i can tell you its not the fuel pump.if you smell fuel then the pump is working right, you may have a weak crankshaft sensor though which would keep it from starting and running. but its definately not the fuel pump maybe you have water in your gas
