We first noticed a problem when our 98 expedition started overheating, we put in the coolant and went on our way. A few days later smoke started coming in the vents when the AC was on high. We checked the coolant and it was almost empty. It's been going through coolant like crazy but we don't really notice big puddles under the car, it's mostly when we are driving it I guess. The smoked smelled like coolant and comes back anytime the coolant levels gets real low. Any ideas??

Could be your heater core leaking. Try some engine coolant "stop leak" in the radiator. Be sure to have the heat turned on when you do it, so the coolant and the rad stop will flow through the heater core for a while. I have the best luck with the stuff that is powdered aluminum . Pour it in your rad when it is low, and then fill to level. If that doesn't do it you may have to replace the heater core. Or, it could be just a hose leaking under the hood, and the fan is sucking it into the truck. Inspect all hoses and connections and gaskets closely .
It probably just drips until the coolant level get's low, and then steams forcing you to smell it.

Your auto is definitely loosing coolant and will overheat. Check your thermostat, hoses, belts, radiator cap and water pump. If you do not fix the leak or coolant circulation problem you can destroy your engine. The smell inside can be being picked up from the outside vent or it could be your heater core inside the ventillation area leaking (which could be your coolant leak).. If that is the case you will need to replace the heater core.

My 94 dodge shadow starts but wont stay running and smokes white?

Sounds like possibly a blown head gasket- that would explain the white smoke (usually an indication that coolant is being burned). . Do you mean the exhaust pipes sounded funny like drowning? If coolant is getting into the cylinders and being burned, some will not burn and get pushed in to the exhaust...
Pull the sparkplugs out and check for evidence of water or coolant. A compression test will verify if the head gasket is good or not.
Good luck.

My 1998 expedition overheated yesterday (gauges did not indicate hot). It smoked and when it cooled down I put coolant in and today when I went to drive it was not wanting to accelerate and the rpm dial...

The reason it did not read hot, on your temp. gauge, is cause your temp. sensor read's coolant or water temp only, not air, if cooling system is empty, coolant temp. sensor will not read, like an air temp. sensor well, more the likely there could be a coolant leak for cooling system to be empty, also could have damage your cylinder's head's, need to have a block test and cylinder compression test done to fine out if head's are damage.

99 Firebird still overheating after repairs and antifreeze

overheating is most likely a bad thermostat, but the coolant loss is a second big concern. Does the exhaust look like steam? You could have a cracked block and the coolant is leaking into the engine. Also check the oil for contamination.

I have a 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe that was running through coolant very quickly. I took it in to a nation wide change to run a coolant system check - they could not find anything wrong except a hose clamp. ...

I would think your thermostat is sticking, and the gasket around the thermostat is leaking. Replace both, and you should be okay. Better check to see if your cooling fan is cutting in too.

Car smoking and shuting off

Why did you replace your radiator?
I ask this because I assume the car was overheating or overheated after the radiator swap. If this is the case then how long was it driven while over heating?
Driving in an overheated condition even for a few minutes is enough to warp the aluminum head, (just ask my mother, not once but twice).
First thing I would check is the oil. If the oil appears milky it means that coolant\water if flowing between the oil ports and coolant ports in the head. Also was the color of the smoke white and did it have a sweet odor. If yes to either then the coolant\water is flowing from the coolant ports into the combustion chamber. You would aslo notice a loss of coolant\water with no apparent source.
It sounds like you have a blow head gasket and you can be sure that it also warped the head. A compression test would confirm this.
I really wish I could give you a better explanation for this.
