The o2 sensors may be ok. They read the amount of fuel and air left over in the unburned exhaust. If too much fuel or air present they will set a code. I agree with Johnny... Have the codes reset and see if the light comes back on. If so you need to have a scan done to see what is causing this code to set
Check fuse The HO2S 2 heater is powered by the IG-COIL fuse located in Junction Block.
After resetting all DTC errors. using the scan tool or , pulling the cab fuse DOME ?
DOME fuse is the suzuki ECU memory fuse.
pulling said fuse, makes it FORGET DTC's
that code is for the heater and that alone. B1S2.
this can mean the wires are cut, to the sensor heater
or the last person used a universal 02 sensor and wired it wrong. (is this a new plug end sensor and how many pins did it have>?)
Im not sure what DEQ is? do say?
B1S2. means down stream oxy sensor heater dead.
bank 1 sensor 2 is the rear sensor not the front so don't mess with the front,
unless rich or want to add problems to engine.
The PCM measures the heater current directly (using series internal resistor. ( the 0.31v is open heater. ) it uses ohms law to do that magic, I= V/R (ECU math)
if the current is 0 the heater is dead, it's that simple!!!
only why remains. (bad wires, bad connections top list of all bad 02 heaters)
NO ENGINE Stated, or country. (i'm guessing USA?)
G10 engine>? or G13 ????
the 97 G10- (means 3 cylinder 1 liter engine)
the ECU /PCM drives the heater directly B1 S2.
Some G10 have only a 1 pin rear sensor. (im looking at all G10s made and sold)
bank2 sensor needs a good ground for it to work
Some have 4 wires sensors. now you know why I asked the pin count on the rear sensor.
FAct 2< Calif and USA fed and Canada cars use different setup and sensors. so........??????
here is the FSM words, read them!
this sensor does not effect mileage
it is used ONLY to test the CAT converter for efficiency.
nothing else. (its a pure smog sensor... if you will)
it don't effect fuel trim or MPG or , other things.
good luck! and post engine size please.
BTW2: once you fix the rear sensor ,the ECU wakes of mr.nasty DTC P0421 tests and now may fail for a bad CAT. (fact)
when the rear sensor dies, the ECU suspends the cat monitor, (does on my 96)
Quote: FSM:
"Trouble Code Conditions: P0141 B1S2
Engine speed over 2000 rpm for 2 minutes, ECT sensor more than 176?F, and the PCM detected the HO2S heater circuit indicated less than 2.5v with HO2S heater turned "off", or that the heater circuit was more than 0.31v with HO2S heater turned "on" for 5 seconds.
Possible Causes:
HO2S heater control circuit is open or shorted to groundHO2S heater control circuit is shorted to powerHO2S heater power circuit is open (check power from the fuse)HO2S heater is damaged or has failed PCM has failed"
Testimonial: "I'm not sure what kind of engine it is I can get a picture of it if that would help I live in the usa I just want to get it pass so we can get new tags for it"
oop. my bad, did you push reset in the scan tool First ? then drive to see if P0141 returns. that is first, its , SOP , standard Oper. proceedures.... goes without saying, as is bad wires make sensors fail....
the G13 has and odd (rare) shared, fuel tank sensor ground. too. and is a 4 wires sensor, very different from the G10 . so again, no engine, no joy, as per usaual this forum.
point 2, the Canadian metror's are different and the changes major came in 1998 , not like in USA where it was 1996. for OBD2 compliance.... so is car USA or Canada.
just got 3 or 4 cylinders they had 3 engines, in that car in use, world wide 7. ok it fails smog, why not tell how many wires were on that sensor, 1, 3, or 4. and varies by engine, country , and even if calif car, yes, calif has there own setups. same as today, same deal.. if in usa, open hood , look up. see that EPA tag there in white it tells you what engine is there.
did you push the reset button on the scan tool yet?
he ECU can be reset 3 ways, battery plus cable off,, or pull ECU memory fuse (dome?) or scan tool reset. 3 ways. then see if it comes back DID IT: the 141 DTC, they will auto reset but can take like forever. it seems,. (called driving cycles, ) no mech, ever waits for auto resets, life is too short, time is money, etcc
to fix any engine, first learn wha engine you have. and what country you reside, neither were posted.
the smog tests in usa are not same in canada, as 1 example.
nor in calif. example 3/
so its all rumor., you never saw the scans with your own eyes/? and never saw the sensor replaced, with your eyes, nor the number of wires on said sensor, all this is word of mouth. NOt hands on by you? fixing cars takes facts and hands one work. c
any shop with an ASE tech there, can find this easy, its like (super basic failures this, bad heater and all true causes) we can even measure the heater current, not guessing, nor throwing parts.
the fsm page post above is clear, (bad or wrong 02, bad wiring to IT, or bad PCM. ) the PCM provides all power to run the heater so what we do is measure the heater current , if 0 amps,we check the heater resistance (near 10 ohms) if that is good, the ECU (PCM) is bad. see? its just 3 parts, here , the heater, the wires and the PCM. by wire we mean, (bad connections! ) find a real technician that is not afraid of his meter.
find a REAL ASE mech. and win. every time. they know how to test and find true causes. (not guessing) (with his trusty meters,etc).... see? its just a heater. and all heaters are easy to test.

You need to have someone with a code reader erase the code so the light will go out.
to reset the DTC errors, pull the dome fuse for 1min. ("suzuki secrets") from 1989 to 2000 year , at least. if heater fails, still (rear sensor it was) then the wiring is bad or ECU bad. what we do us use a "thing" called and ammeter, to measure the current, and if not near 1 amp we find the cause, (if the ecu will not source that current ,its bad. easy as that. (bad o2 heater driver transistor inside the ECU)

Here is the daignostic procedure for troubleshooting DTC P0141 (click over each image for zoom)...
Hope this helps to solve it.

we don't have a scan tool but we have taken the battery cable off and it came back on ill see what engine it is when I get back home
I I saw my brother change both sensors and I just checked them to make sure everything was ok we got the code from deq
also the o2 sensors have wires
is a 1,3 or 4 wire sensor, the rear sensor? and the PCM shows the rear sensor heater is dead. that means its , bad sensor, wrong sensor, wired wrong, or the wires from PCM to the rear sensor are cut. or shorted, look for melted wires, on the rear sensor, or its harness.
how many wires does the rear sensor have, my guess, its a G13 engine, with 4 wire front and rear sensors.
all sensors have wire, but how many? (or post your vin?)
