Power steering working but warning light on. - 2001 Fiat Punto

The electronic power steering (EPS) Warning Light is located on the instrument panel. This light illuminates when the EPS is malfunctioning. When this light is lit, your steering may be a little heavier, and you should schedule an inspection as soon as possible. Tip The EPS Warning Light briefly illuminates when the car is first turned on. The light is only a problem if it stays lit for an extended period.

The system will set a fault code when the warning light comes on that will tell what part is acting up, you need a scan tool hooked up and the fault code read.

Most likely you have power assist. Either the pack and pinion died, or you lost power and /or ground to it.

Could be the power steering pump is bad.

I would have the power steering system tested, it is a possible steering rack issue.

the pump is failing. check the hydrolic oil is full on the pump, and that there is no leaks. if below the marking top up.
