Yes, it sounds like you have a transmission that is about to fail and you need to get it into a transmission shop (NOT AAMCO) as soon as you can, or you will walk home very soon.
The security feature had locked the radio It's an antitheft system that is triggered if the power supply is interrupted. You will have to refer to your owners manual for instructions on how to get the unlock code, or contact a dealership. The dealership can get the stereo working again in no time, but it will be costly.
I had the same problem with our 2006 Jetta ... it was the wiring harness in the driver's door. Cost was under $700 bucks installed ... I am in New England.
under the hood, you will see a positive battery connection, and there should be a bare metal area on the engine you can use for ground. Clip the BLACK clip of one side of the jumper to the negative terminal of exposed metal on the jetta, then hook the other black clip to the negative terminal on the battery of the other car. Start the other car. Now, hook the RED clip on the jetta side of the cables to the postitve terminal on the jetta, then go and hook the other red clip to the positive terminal on the running car. Let the running vehicle run for about 3-5 minutes, and then with the cables STILL connected, start the Jetta.
After this is done, remove the jumper cables, one clip at a time, while being careful to NOT let them (the clips) touch until they are disconnected from BOTH vehicles!
