P0744 - Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Intermittent Possible causes
- Faulty torque converter clutch solenoid valve
- Torque converter clutch solenoid valve harness is open or shorted
- Torque converter clutch solenoid valve circuit poor electrical connection
- Low transmission fluid level
- Dirty transmission fluid Help with this
Tech notes
When the a transmission solenoid is working intermittent, in most cases the problem is not the electrical part of the solenoid; the problem is foreign material obstructing the mechanical function of the solenoid or the flow of the fluid through the transmission valve body. If the transmission fluid is very dirty, it is recommend changing the transmission fluid and if possible removing the transmission pan for further diagnosis. Excessive debris or metal particles on the transmission pan could be an indication that there is a transmission mechanical failure and that the transmission will need to be rebuilt or replaced.
Help with this
When is the code detected?
The P0744 is detected when A/T cannot perform lock-up even if electrical circuit is good.
Symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
P0744 Description
The Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) solenoid valve is activated, with the gear in D4, by the Transmission Control Module (TCM) in response to signals sent from the vehicle speed and the Engine Control Module (ECM). Lock-up piston operation will then be controlled. When the torque converter clutch solenoid valve is activated, the torque converter lockup clutch will engage creating a 1 to 1 RPM ratio between the transmission input shaft and the rotational speed of the torque converter.
Lock-up operation, however, is prohibited when A/T fluid temperature is too low.
When the accelerator pedal is depressed (less than 2/8) in lock-up condition, the engine speed should not change abruptly. If there is a big jump in engine speed, there is no lock-up.

You need a better mechanic that traces ALL of the possibilities of each code, not just read the code and trow in a part hoping that it's fixed ~ it can be wiring as well, not just plug in a new part as mentioned on the 2nd trouble code to the vehicle speed sensor

P0744 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Intermittent

P0722 Output Speed Sensor No Signal

the first of the 2 looks to be more intensive to trace and find out the problem & the 0722 is the easier job for an intermediate mechanic to trace the wiring for continuity

SOURCE: code P1400 on a 1997 nissan maxima. help car wont pass inspection

P1400 on your vehicle is described as :Differential Pressure Feedback EGR Circuit Low Input You either need a new DPFE valve, or a new EGR valve. Both can be tested for functionality before replacing them both. EGR valve is more likely I think. Cleaning it may not improve its performance, but its worth a try. Also check the vacuum lines between the DPFE and EGR system. The EGR valve and DPFE are usually close together above the exhaust manifold/downpipe. you need service instructions to test these items, suggest you go to a garage really...

SOURCE: error code 1159 told by the dealer it needs a part that cost over $500

The 3.0L and 3.5L engines in the XG300, XG350 and Santa Fe incorporate a Variable Induction System (VIS). The VIS is a secondary set of throttle plates in the upper intake plenum used to increase low end torque while maintaining high rpm performance. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) uses a Variable Intake Motor (VIM) to control the opening and closing of the additional throttle plates called the Intake Control Valve (ICV).
At low rpm the (ICV) is closed and, as rpm increases, it is opened a specified amount for optimum airflow.
A VIS system condition is not likely to affect drivability, however, a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) may set. The DTC for the VIS system is P1159 (Variable Intake Target Position). The PCM controls the desired valve position and when the feedback of the
valve position does not correlate with the requested position this code is set. This DTC will not turn the check engine lamp on, however the code will remain in memory.
NOTE: P1159 has been changed to P2015 for the 2005MY.
Please refer to DTC P2015 in the 2005 Shop Manual for further diagnostic information on P1159. (XG350: page FL-555) (Santa Fe: page FL-633)
DTC DETECTING CONDITION:
ITEM DETECTING CONDITION POSSIBLE CAUSE
DTC Strategy Target position monitoring • Poor connection
• Open or short to battery
in harness
• VIS Motor or VIS Motor
Rotation Sensor
• PCM
Enable Condition Engine speed > 3750 rpm
Threshold Value Unable to obtain target value
Diagnosis Time Unable to obtain target position 4 times
MIL On Condition N/A

The VIM is not available as a separate unit from the upper plenum if replacement is needed, therefore the entire plenum assembly must be replaced.
NOTE: With the intake plenum removed, inspect the gear on the VIM to see if it has stripped. Carefully inspect the throttle plate retaining screws that attach the plates to the VIS shaft. If any of the screws are missing (2 screws per throttle plate) inspect for engine damage.
Once the intake replacement is completed (see appropriate Shop Manual for the vehicle you are working on) the Electronic Throttle Position System (ETS) should be re-initialized by turing the ignition key On and Off within 1 second. Then, wait 30 seconds before starting the vehicle. Refer to TSB 05-36-002 for the complete ETS
initialization procedure.

SOURCE: fault codes P0722 and P0717

You just need to replace the sensors. If you are mechanically inclined, you can do it yourself. If you don't feel comfortable working on an expensive transmission, take it to the dealer.

SOURCE: check engine light on-code says egr valve is bad

the egr system consists of control circuits as well as the egr valve itself. troubleshooting will have to be performed in order to pinpoint the fault. the valve may just need cleaning. there may be damage in the long run since the egr system introduces exhaust gas to the air intake to reduce combustion temperatures.

SOURCE: How much will it cost to fix code P0744 for a 2005

The possible causes of the error code you are facing are

  • Torque converter clutch solenoid valve is faulty
  • Hydraulic control circuit failure
  • Valve body problems
  • Or any problem with the clutches.
Unless we test them step by step we cannot identify the exact fault . SO estimating the cost of repair cannot be done like shooting in the dark without knowing the problem.

How do I fix error code P0744, )730,0736, 0602

0602 refers to the Engine Control Module ,either faulty , needs reprogramming,or wrong ECM which unless you've had it changed recently it will be one of the first two .The other codes all refer to the transmission and Powertrain Control Module , the only thing that can be done within a reasonable budget is to have the transmission fluid changed . The other causes are going to cost depending on what may be the fault if changing the fluid did'nt help, sorry not good news as there are no easy fix's to these type's of problems. Best advice get a diagnosis from a transmission specialist although as you've mentioned $1500 you probably have already. These OBD codes are only an indicator of which sensor/switch may be at fault so upto you if you try the fluid change as could only be around $100-$150 at most, otherwise may be better to change car in good luck

I have anissan pathfinder 2002 they have the obd code p0744

Nissan makes lousy transmissions. Their spin-off company JATCO made the ones in Jaguar X-Types. The code P0744 A/T TCC Signal Torque Converter Clutch Signal. Most folks who experience this need a new transmission. If it were me I'd probably change the transmission fluid & filter, reset the computer and take it directly to be traded in. You could pay two or three thousand for a rebuilt unit at the dealer, don't go to AAMCO, they are rip-off city. It is interesting to note that I have spent over $10,000 repairing a 1993 Ford Ranger that was "free". Was that the best thing I could have done? Absolutely not, I could have bought a much newer truck for less than that. Sometimes it isn't cheaper to keep her.
