It's more then likely the sending unit in the fuel tank but you should have checked first . This vehicle's fuel send units input is to the PCM - powertrain control module not directly to the fuel gauge . The fuel level information is sent from the PCM on the CCD data communication network to which the instrument cluster reads it . It would be best to have a factory scan tool hooked up to see what's up ! Chrysler Data Bussing CCD SCI Data Lines Tech Tip Diagnostic News

What don't work, the cluster is chock-a-block full of functions.
lights. (dial and warn x20 or more)
buttons dead.
what?
above poster has you scan it,
i bet you dont have a scan tool, and can't
but is first after checking both fuses to the cluster.

do you want us to guess, or Test.
ok ill guess, bad cluster, ever price one? so my answer is no good.

97 jeep grand cherokee, fuel gauge stopped working so i checked all fuses relays changed fuel pump(brand new)still the gauge dose not read what should i look in to next

did you change sending unit? that is what sends the signal of amount of fuel. if so then your gauge motor is worn. get a new cluster from wreckers. check all wiring for bad grounds

I have a 1993 dakota 3.9 v6 replaced fuel pump, had wiring checked, and replaced cluster but fuel gauge still doesn't work any help would be greatful

Was the sending unit replaced

You say you had something done or checked

We have over 300 new people a day, come to this
site alone, that have not found a repair shop or dealer
that can resolve anything, at all

Why is that,I ask?

I have 1992 dakota factory manuals from mine old one

If you get specific about serious wire chasing I will
look things up for you.

Had fuel filter changed, when car came back, cluster was not working, but lights do and it drives fine, also getting code P1495 and I know what that is. Is there a fuse that runs the cluster, my guess is...

I would take it back to the shop that changed the fuel filter and have them find and fix what they have done. They are responsible for anything that they have messed up while in their care.

I have a 98 jeep grand cherokee. I have been having a problem where all of my gauges stop working (temp, fuel, rpm, speed). The radio even has stopped working. Does anyone have any ideas?

there is a common issue on these trucks with the wiring behind the instrument panel. remove the instrument cluster, closely inspect the connectors for corrosion and a good tight fit. good luck!

Instrument cluster going dead after airbag light comes on

I had the exact same issue with my 1999 cherokee. None of the gauges worked, the red airbag light was on, the horn didn't work etc.... After going to several different mechanics, it was determined that i had a bad ECM computer. I got online, went to autocomputer exchange.com, got a remanufactured computer, put it in... and all the gauges now work. I highly recommend doing this, because the dealership will screw you for almost $1000 for a new computer... whereas, I paid only $225 for the one from autocomputer exchange. Anyhow, everything works great now.

1999 Cherokee, Changing out instrument cluster?

Unfortunately I believe this can not be done because the sensor for idiot lights are different from the sensors for gauges. I don't know this for an absolute fact but in most instances this is true.

Fuel gauge always reads full and low fuel light won't work

Sounds like you have a short most likely a bad fuel sending unit located as part of the fuel pump. Most of the time you have to replace the pump because the pump and the sending unit are as one. Have you been to an Auto Parts store like Advanced Auto or Autozone? That's also a great source of ideas when you get stumped.

Good Luck. Hope this helped.

Fuel gauge

you either have a bad sending unit, which iit is in the fuel pump assembly in the tank or a hole in the float and it fills with gas and sinks, which it's also on the fuel pump assembly in the tank or a bad fuel gauge in the instrument cluster. it's more than likely a sending unit problem, jeeps are bad about the sending unit to quit working
