The front calipers are not the problem...did a shop replace the pads and rotors? Or did a friend replace these parts. The Chrysler front pads and rotors are an excellent design...easy to service and replace parts...only 2 bolts hold on each caliper, and the rotor is held in place with the caliper, and wheel. My first thought was a front wheel bearing is grinding, but you should have noticed this before the brake parts change. The pads could be installed backwards also...my second thought was you may have a loose wheel or two...retighten all 5 lug nuts by using the "star" tightening method, you may be surprised that the loose lug nuts are the only problem. When was the last time you had your rear differential looked at or serviced? Basically when its happening something in your drive train is out of whack, so to fix it we need to look at the sequence of where the power goes, but if it sounds like its coming from the back,we'll start at the drive shaft itself, when it spins, it gives power to the rear differential, which is most likely where the noise is coming from. Driving should be limited while this problem is occurring because if any of the gears in the rear diff have become shaved or broken, the problem could get much worse while spinning with the pieces of gear are spinning around inside the still working gears. The first thing you should do is re-lubricate the gears in the rear, if this doesn't fix it, a trip to the shop is in order.
try replacing the u-joint which connects the driveshaft to the rear end(differrential), and if that does not solve it, then have your differrential checked out (a bad differential usually wont get all the power to the wheels that its supposed to) or just have it replaced, possibly with a junked differrential form a wrecked vehicle with low miles.
Really need a visual inspection before I can say anything. It could as simple as something stuck in the tires. I recommend having it looked at by a repair shop.
IF IT ONLY THUMPS WHEN YOUR CAR IS MOVING YOU COULD BE WRITE. PAY ATTENTION TO THE THUMPING CLOSLEY, DO YOU FEEL A VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL, IF SO THE PROBLEM IS IN THE FRONT END. IF YOU FEEL A VIBRATION IN THE DRIVERS SEAT THE PROBLEM IS IH THE REAR END. YES THE VIBRATION FROM THE FRONT STEERING AND THE DRIVERS SEAT IS A WAY TO TELL WHERE THE PROBLEM IS
This sounds like your CV joint is bad if it is a front wheel drive. The CV joint will click or thump when you are turning. It will also make your front wheels shake if it is realy bad.
It does sound like one of the universal joints. If you can raise the back end off the ground engage gear and the faulty u/v joint will make the wheel jump. This will let you know which side it is
