KMTANNER is correct for the 2003-2007 CTS. For the 2008+ CTS, you need to remove the bumper. The bumper comes off fairly easy, but there are a 2 hidden screws. Look for the youtube video on removing the bumper. I have a 2004 and 2009 CTS. I did both.

look under the car at the exhaust you might have a plastic bag melted to the exhaust causing the smell. you can leave it and let it burn off. You can also jack the car up if you feel comfortable doing so and scrap off as much as you can. That is a common result, if not a bag could be a serpentine belt failing.
