Location of ect sensor on 2005 jetta - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta 4

The Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor on the 5.7L engine is located under the air conditioning compressor. It is installed into a water jacket at the front of the cylinder block.

ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR LOCATED IN ENGINE COOLANT PIPE LEADING FROM THE FRONT OF THE ENGINE WHERE YOU WILL SEE 2 SMALL COOLANT HOSES CONNECT TO COOLANT PIPE.THERMOSTAT IS IN THE COOLANT PIPE YOU WILL SEE WIRE CONNECTOR PLUG INTO ECT SENSOR.

Replace bad Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor. ECT sensor is placed in the right back side of the cylinder head on 2002 VW Jetta 1.9 TDI. See picture below:

Replace the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor. ECT sensor is placed in the right back side of the cylinder head on 2002 VW Jetta 1.9 TDI. See picture below:

ECT SENSOR LOCATED IN CYLINDER HEAD.LOOK FOR A BRASS SENSOR WITH A ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR GOING TO IT.

Removal & Installation To Remove:

1. Before servicing the vehicle refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section.
2. Remove or disconnect the following:
   • The coolant to just below the level of the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor
   • The air intake duct (1997-1998)
     
     
   • The ECT sensor electrical connector
   • The ECT sensor

To Install:

1. Install or connect the following:
   • P/N 9985253 sealer or equivalent to the threads
   • The sensor
     1. Torque to: 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm) (2001-2005)
     2. Torque to: 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm) (1997-2000)
   • The ECT sensor electrical connector
   • The coolant

Take off the two covers on top of your engine. The ECT sensor should be on your right side of the engine. It may be either black or green and has a 4 blade connector. There is a plastic clip you slide out to replace the sensor. Hope this helps. Only takes a few minutes to replace

It's just to the drivers side of the valve cover. Attached to the coolant flange under the hose for the PCV. In this pic if it works.
