Need a key made for the 2002 monte carlo ls. Is this a key with a transponder chip or is it a regular key

First it has to be running and WITH IT RUNNING cut the yellow wire on the ignition switch.After that it should run with any regular type non transponder key.

It's the reverse process of removing it.

The 2003 Monte Carlo definitely has an antitheft system. That is a fact. Though you cannot see the chip on the key like the older VATS version, these keys have a transponder hidden in the plastic head of the key that communicates a signal to the reciever in your ignition. The security light illuminating on the dash only has 1 purpose, and that is to tell you of the failure in your antitheft system (passlock or passkey). The intermittent starting is a dead give away of this problem and will only get worse until it doesnt start at all. You need to isolate the problem or bypass the system entirely. The hard part is finding what part of the system is failing. This link has all the info you need, plus pictures and a 100% cure if so desired.

The security light is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM. These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. There is where the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle.

hey that happen to me its a chipped key right u need to replace the ingtion switch because there is two white wires that come off for the key to read the chip and when one is broken u cant start the car u can bypass it by find ing the orange wire under the dash under the steering colum and make a bypass restior wire to start ur car u need to find out what retior key u have

It is likely the fuel level sending unit. I had a customer with an 03 Monte Carlo that the pump went out and the fuel gauge hadn't worked in about a year. We replaced the fuel pump module and it took care of both problems. I believe the sending unit is available separately from the complete module.

try contacting the dealer.I did this about 10 years ago with an 85 nissian 300zx and they sent me new carpet and it fit perfect. Also try contacting auto part stores. You private small auto parts store usually know more. Also check into restoring car websites. Carpet stores really cant help.

You need to buy a whole new clicker, same thing happened to me, eventually your bright lights will end up not clicking off or vice versa. and your turn signals will mess up. Get a new clicker, it's the easiest solution, but not the cheap one. mine was like 200$
