The air bag light is on for 2 reasons. The first is that there is an issue with a component or wiring in the supplementary restraint system. The second reason is that as long as the light is illuminated, the air bags will NOT deploy in the event of a crash.

There are no common components that break but if I had to guess, I would say the clock spring is at fault. Does everything on the horn pad, including the horn, work properly? If not, that would be a sure sign of the clock spring being at fault.

You are going to have to have the codes read in the SRS (airbag) system to see where the problem lies.

Good luck,
Vinnie

IF the airbag light is on, that means the system didn't pass the internal test and has stored a trouble code. Get the trouble code read and then you'll know where to start the diagnosis. There is NO "relearn" for an airbag system if there's a fault. The light will just come back on.

What dose a SRS light mean on a dashboard

The SRS light is for the "Safety Restraint System" (Airbags). If the SRS light stays lit then there is a problem with the system and it may not function in the event of a crash. Have the SRS system services by a qualified technician. It is not something for the average DIYer.

My 06 ford fusion airbag light comes on and stays on

Airbag systems should never be worked on by consumers who are not professionals with the Airbag system. You will need to take the vehicle in to the dealership to have the Airbag system professionally serviced, and to avoid problems with your insurance company. Airbag systems are very delicate, and consists of crash sensors in various points on the vehicle, as well as a system of wires, and an Airbag computer module. Usually the Airbag light comes on if the system has been activated, or become faulty. Once again, never work on the Airbag system yourself, take it to the dealership to have it serviced.

SRS-seatbelt response system, is a part of your airbag system and braking system, once you hit brakes very hard SRS makes sure that the belt is getting tight, in case of collision seatbelt gets stiff and the airbag blows up. SRS light coming on and staying for few seconds is fine as computer is checking the system, once it stays on or flashes you need top go to a garage as you might get a surprise blow in the face by the airbag.

Air bag light stays on

If your airbag light comes on it means its not working. Some of the newer airbag systems have weight sensors under the seats and anything lodged under them can disable the passenger airbag and possibly cause the light to go on. If there are no other symptoms, and nothing impeding the airbags then the car thinks the airbag wont work. If you are concerned for your son's safety, take it to a qualified mechanic and have them check/replace your airbag. Good Luck!

The airbag light came on and stayed on for no reason.

I have the same issue (which comes and goes often).
It is caused by a loose wire connection, used for the drivers side airbag located in the seat.. The connector for mine is located under the front drivers seat. There are a couple of connectors that are connected to a bar under the front of the seat. I don't recall which one is used for the Airbag sensor.
