That button has three positions, the middle position is for normal driving, hold is for starting off in second gear on ice or snow to reduce wheel spin, and the power side when pushed in delays the up shifts of the auto to make it rev higher and possibly seem more sporty.

What is the problem? Do you need power mode which delays up shifts?

I have a 1992 nissan pathfinder 4x4 se automatic and it does not want to downshift when i am accelerating and starts out in 2nd or 3rd gear from a dead stop

Is the hold/normal/power button on the dash is in the hold position that is what it will seem like because that is what it does, holds in second gear for ice and snow starts.
So make sure the button is in the normal (middle) or Power position (right side pressed in).

Which transmission oil to use in a terrano 1996

Being that we have the Nissan Pathfinder (closest vehicle here), which like my 2001 Nissan Xterra uses Nissan Matic-D, you can use a Nissan Matic-D (or J), or a compatible fluid such as Valvoline MaxLife or Castrol TransMax Import Multi-Vehicle

1999 nissan terrano diesel turbo is lacking power , brand new fuel pump and comp chip installed and has run like **** since, has been put through comp diagnosis but no fault showing,(is very slow 2 pickup...

Possibly the "Mass airflow sensor". I had a similar problem, basically the car behaved like it didn't have a turbo and was really slow. Unfortunately the Mass airflow sensor is expensive, about AU$800. Only failed once several years ago. Hope this helps.

My 1992 Nissan Terrano/Pathfinder wont move in any gear. It will go to the gear but just wont move. Its an automatic

Check that the high / low lever is fully in position, if it has been bumped or popped half way between high and low, then then you will not have any drive.

Nissan terrano 2.9 turbo Water in header tank

There is a leaking coolant hose, or a perforation of the Heater Matrix.Often a temporary quick fix is to shut off the incoming Hot Coolant and crimp the return to engine hose with a Long Nose snap lock.

sounds like your neutral safety switch is going bad, have the switch replaced, and have the shifter assembly checked out. if the neutral safety switch isn't working the vehicle thinks its in gear and won't allow the engine to turn, try starting it in neutral and see if it starts

No illumination on selector lever for Nissan Terrano/Pathfinder

All you have to do is change the bulb, that light goes out quicker than others because it encounters alot of vibration and things of that nature in that area - it should be a very simple fix and should only take as much as a screwdriver to get to - worst case scenario is you would have to remove your center console, don't be intimidated as this is pretty straight forward.
