When you changed the fuel pump did you change the fuel filter? I changed mine in my expedition 3 months ago and also changed the filter. Reason to change is because a fuel pump usually fails because of a semi clogged filter. The pump has to pump a lot harder thus it burns out. First i would check to see if pump is running. Have someone turn the key on and listen with the gas cap off. If you hear the pump engage then it may be a clogged filter. If you dont hear the pump then it maybe your pump reset. My pump reset is located on the passenger side front seat just in front of the door. Plastic shield must be taken off. There is a red button that you need to depress to re engage the pump circuit. Once you depress then it should start. Check your manual for pump reset location. Good luck

Have you replaced the timing belt? if not i would highly recommend doing so. these cars need to have the timing belt replaced before it breaks otherwise it can and will cause major engine damage.

Continous surging and stalling

Per your description, I would suspect a fuel pump issue. When the fuel pump is running the pump impeller heats up. On an older pump the impeller can begin to seize up and momentarily stops and starts. Some times it just stops and has to cool down for a couple of minutes, then is ok for a while.
To test this theory, when the engine stalls and stops, your mechanic can use a rubber mallet and hit the bottom of the gas tank, this will free the pump impeller and the car will start again.
Or, have him install a fuel pressure gauge and go for a drive. If the pressure begins to fluctuate and drop, you know the pump is causing the issue.
Good luck, let me know.

92 SL1 Intermitant stalling problem

Fuel pump,Fuel pump, Fuel pump,,, high mile cars will always out live their fuel pump. The stalls will become more frequent. But first change fuel filter if it has one outside the fuel tank, if it has it in the tank just replace the pump at the same time. Also next time when it stalls bang the bottom of the tank with your hand and try starting.

Starts fine, Idles fine, Drives Fine for a while

you might want to chk. the crank sensor and or cam sensor. sounds more to me that it could be fuel problem. chk. fuel pressure. pump could be on its way out. don't be fooled by hearing the pump running as they sound like they are pumping but there not, at least not enought pressure to keep it running. pressure should be around 50 p.s.i.
