The thermostat opoens at 195 degrees Farenheit, so any range from 175-200

Hi my honda cb1300 .on a run the temp is 80 .but when i pull up the temp soon goes up to 100 is this normal

it indicates a failure of the cooling system fan ( if fitted)
coolant is cooled by air passing through the radiator so when riding the road speed provides the air flow and so the temp is normal but when stationary there is no air flow so the temp will rise
If there is a fan fitted the check the fan,fan relay or coolant sensor for correct operation
If not fitted then it could be considered normal as there is no air movement to do the cooling
The same thing happens when the engine is shut off as there is no coolant circulation there is still residual heat in the metal of the engine and so there will be a rise in temp as that heat moves to the coolant
talk with a service center and discuss what could be a normal temp rise when stationary to determine if you have a problem

If my thermostat sensor is faulty, how can I verify that is the issue? Is that part expensive?

if the thermostat is faulty it will show up as two things
the car will overheat within 5 minutes of start up (10 minutes max) as it will be stuck closed and prevent coolant circulation
and second it will be stuck open which will be seen as taking a long time to reach normal operating temp which will be a long time if ever in cold weather and very low ambient temperatures
you call it as a thermostat sensor where it is a coolant temperature sensor which is a different unit
the sensor in this case reads the engine coolant temp and reports to the ECM so that correct air /fuel ratio can be maintained under all conditions
It also reports that the coolant temperature is too high and so the ECM turns on the fan/s to cool the radiator
They cost from around $20.00 to $80.00 ud depending on make of car , generic or genuine

P0125 code

The code means the engine is not reaching normal operating temp.
You would need to use a scanner to see what the temp sensor is telling the computer the coolant temp is.
If the coolant temp sensor is showing 180 degrees or more after 5 min of run time, the problem could be the computer.

I would suspect either the temp guage or the coolant temperature sensor being inaccurate. The new thermostat is probably working good, or else you wouldn't have a very warm heater. If you have electric radiator fans, you might check to see if they are running all th time. Electric cooling fans should only come on when the temperature sensor reaches a predetermined coolant temp, or when the a/c or defroster is turned on. If the fan runs all the time, the engine would not reach normal operating temperature.

What is normal operating temp on highway?

Normal op temp in your car is 208 to 218, +/-. It varies from car to car depending on radiator cond, coolant, My fans come on at 218, It can go up from there to 250 or so , but I would shut it down before then. I don't care what coolant boils at. , somethings wrong. If it runs cooler, that is ok too, outside temp has a hand in the temp too. Hope this helps.

Coolant temp below thermostat regulating temp

more than likely the thermostat has stuck open. Or opening to soon not allowing the car to reach normal operating temperature. I would start by replacing the thermostat. Clearing the code and running a drive cycle and see if the code comes back. if the code does not return problem solved. if it does return replace the coolant temp sensor.

well blue is OK when thermostat opens it should go off this means the car is at operating temp as long you do not have orange or red temp light should be OK hope this helps

First place to look is the thermostat. When a thermostat fails, it prevents additional coolant from entering through the reservoir. Coolant backing up into the reservoir is another symptom of a bad thermostat. The reason you don't experience overheating when you drive is sufficient coolant is being pumped through the system by the waterpump.
