I'm working on a 2007 Dodge Caliber with charging issues. I replaced the alternator and the battery but it's still not charging, any Ideas?

Paperwork that came with the alternator said if still not charging after replacing the alternator, disconnect the battery cables and touch them together for approx. 20 minutes reconnect and try again. It said that would reset the system, however it's still not charging. I checked out some forums and found a reset that might help, they called it a key dance. Turn the key to on and back off 3 times, then turn on wait a couple seconds and start but that didn't work.

SOURCE: Won't start (again); has new alternator & new battery

what it sounds like is that you may have a loose ground somewhere, most likely a ground strap from the engine block to the frame to the battery. chances are that because of the loose ground your altenator maybe charginging properly but the looose ground the current is not going to the battery so as you are driving the battery is being discharged. if this doesn't solve the problem then i suspect that your alarm is the problem. it is hardwired to the positve side of the of the system and is drawing your battery down. please rate the solution...thanks

SOURCE: 1994 Dodge Viper will not start after storage and battery drain.

With the battery charger connected or a jumper battery simply click the alarm key fob on and then off. This will reset the alarm and the car should start...had mine towed to find this out

Check the connection on your battery terminals. They could be corroded and this causes a gap between the battery's power and you car's terminals

Why is this 2007 Dodge Caliber 2.0 still not charging after changing the Alternator and the battery? The alternator and the battery both check out fine!!!

there are fusible links that will melt, like a fuse, find all of them and replace the bad ones, its on the secondary wire to the positive side of the battery

The signal to the alternator is controlled by the ECM/PCM, so the best thing to do is check all connections to the alternator and battery to make certain that they are clean and tight and have the vehicle scanned for fault codes.
There is one larger red w/grey wire to the alternator, that should have power from the battery, if it does not, then the fusible link to that wire has blown. If there is power to that wire, then the problem may either be in the alternator itself or the PCM.
If that is the case, you will need to hook up a scanner to it, to see what the PCM is saying that the charging system voltage is.

2007 dODGE cALIBER

There can be many different issues with this... without checking i can guess on a few things. First check the Alternator relay and fuse. It can also be draining power from the actual fuse block. there may be a short in the wiring as well. Could also be a bad/defective alternator. Start the car and disconnect the negative battery terminal/ post while the car is on. If the car cuts off while doing this you have a bad alternator. if its still runs when disconnected your charging system is fine.

Is it hard to replace alternator? I heard that you take right wheel off to get to it?

1. Disconnect and isolate negative battery cable at battery. 2. Remove the right front wheel. 3. Remove the underbody air dam.

4. Remove the accessory drive splash shield.

5. Remove the accessory drive idler pulley.

6. Loosen the lower mounting bolt.

7. Loosen the A/C compressor and relocate, pull down and to outboard side of vehicle to make room to remove generator.

8. Unplug field circuit from generator.

9. Remove the B+ terminal nut and wire.

10. Remove the upper mounting bolt. 11. Remove the generator lower mounting bolt.

12. Relocate the battery terminal (1) to the other side of the A/C line (2) for removal of the generator.

13. Rotate generator pulley down.
