Old and tired transmission. Clutches could be burnt. Does the fluid smell burnt? Could be other things, but most likely it's due for a rebuild.

94 jeep grand cherokee larado

Hi Eric, it sound to me like the modulator in the trans is faulty. This modulator is what controls the shifting in the trans. It details a 30 minmute repair by your transmission specialist. The replacement part should be around a hundred dls, plus the labor. While you are at it, have the filter changed in the trans for carefree shifting.

Is the 4x4 trans on a grand cherokee differnt than the 4x4 trans on just a cherokee. Years 1994-2000

Grand Cherokee many times will have a Chrysler trans (depends on engine) "regular" Cherokee usually has an AW4 unit. The difference is obvious as Chrysler one is larger and has the reverse switch located above the left rear corner of the pan...AW4 has it on the passenger side directly across from where the shift lever is on the drivers side.

Rolls in park

If you shift to PARK position, the auto transmission (if you have one) shift to a blocked mode. The blocker is located inside the auto trans. This is a very hard piece of metal the hooks into a gear and blocks the transmission. If that part is broken, the car rolls and it takes only some drive cycles that this little item will wreck your transmission completely. If you have a manual transmission, maybe the clutch need to be replaced. You can check the clutch: accelerate fast in first or sec. gear. If the engine turns up without speed acceleration, replace the clutch.

Can I tow my 4X4 auto grand cherokee behind a Mtr Hm? I will put everything in N (transfer case & Trany)

I have a jeep wrangler and to have it towed you are suppose to put the transverecase in neutral after you first depress brake pedal put trans in neutral then start engine shift auto trans into drive release brake pedal make sure there is no movement, shut engine off with key left in acc position shift auto trans into park, disconnect neg battery cable (damage can result in trans if shifted into park while transvere case is in neutral with engine running) you should refere to your owners manuel

Jeep 4wd auto trans

while moving about 2-5 mph, shift your transmission into neutral but keep the vehicle rolling, then move the transfer case shift from 4HI to 2HI.
