I'm trying to change my brake light switch on my 1995 gmc Yukon. I can't figure out how to take the clip off that hold the switch on

Most GM brake light switches are held in the hole by a steel clip that grabs on the plastic threads. To remove the switch, you just grab the switch and pull it out. Requires a little effort. When you replace the switch, it pushes back into the clip fairly easily as the clip has one way tabs. You push the switch in until it bottoms out on the brake pedal arm. The threads are just there for the clip to grab onto. In rare cases where the clip fails to retain the switch, I have had to screw a nut onto the back side of the switch to prevent it from backing out of the clip. This is the case sometimes when you are reinstalling the same clip. Otherwise a new one will generally hold because of the new plastic threads.

No brake lights

If the fuses are ok, replace the brake light switch on the back side of the brake pedal. You can test it by disconnecting the plug from the switch and use a jumper wire or paper clip between posts on the plug, lights come on, bad switch.

No brake lights need to replace brake light switch

Its on the top of the brake pedal. Unplug the connector and check for 12 volts firstif you have a multimeter set it 20 DC volts you should get 12 at connector. If thats good set the meter to OHMS low scale take jumper leads connect to switch terminals aliagator clips then clip to the probes on the meter and push the brake pedal the reading should change if the switch is good from open when depressed to closed when no force applyed to the brake pedal. If there is no change then the switch needs to be replaced. Remove the clip from the pin that slides through the pedal and the switch slide out the pin install new switch reconnect the connector slide pin back in and install the clip. check to see if brake lights work

Brake Light Switch REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disable the SIR system (if equipped).
  3. Remove the clip (R/V Series) or unclip the switch (C/K Series) and unplug the electrical connector from the brake light switch.
  4. Remove the switch.
  5. Installation is the reverse of removal.

I have a 2003 buick lasabre, brake lights stay on include back window light

Most likely the brake light switch is sticking on. This switch is mounted on the brake pedal arm about six inches above the foot pedal, between the arm and the push rod that goes into the master cylinder.
Get a new switch at the auto parts store, then pull the spring clip and slide the old switch off. disconnect the wires, replace the switch and put the spring clip back into place.
If you don't want to replace it yourself, it should be an inexpensive repair (I'd guess under $100). Call around for prices.

Brake Light Switch clip on 94 GMC Pickup

My 1996 Brake light clip needed to spread open with a screw driver(some what like a round spring) and with another screw driver push the switch up the pin. The switch will push the clip off the Pin. The pin has a head that needs to clear clip while the spring clip is spread open. It took me a while to figure out.
