This can be a number of things. First, a loose or corroded ground connection or the connection at the sending unit. Could be a bad connection at the dash. Could be a bad sending unit in the gas tank. Or, a bad gas gage. Or even the wiring in between. You will need someone who is competent at electrical troubleshooting to find the problem. Don't let someone tell you something is bad without even looking at it first or you might buy parts you didn't need.
Check the ground

well # 1 the full gauge when empty is a sign that your fuel pump is bad and that needs to be replaced the part about spitting the gas back out is probrobly a clog between the fuel door and the tank itself or their might be a vapor lock door that might be stuck shut so fuel cant get in im not 100%sure about that but im 100%sure that the fuel guage is the fuel pump being dead.

use a scanner to check the abs system . most of the time the abs brakes and traction control system work together. your cruise control . unit has a servo motor .in front right fender well. check the fuse and relay also the cruise control brake release switch. and the brake light switch.if all is good you have a cruise control module problems. dealer ship job.

A bad electric connector is possible. A bad tank sending unit can cause the same symptom. Usually the sending unit is a reostat mounted inside the tank.. it changes resistance depending on the float position, the resistance change causes a different voltage to the gauge or signal processor. The reostat may be a resistive plastic strip, as the float moves a contact pointer wipes the length of strip thus the change in resistance and voltage. Clear as mud?
