Have throttle body checked also the MDK throttle motor,
make sure that the dealer has followed service bulletin 12 07 99 for procedure to replace the MDK throttle motor
also have them check for codes, here are some codes,
it could be an expensive job, have them check everything,it is most likely the throttle motor,,throttle body is 600 if they switch it,dont let them do it without checking throttle motor,
codes,
MS41, MS42 and MS43 engine DME bmw codes...

you could have one of many faults. It would be dvisable to read the fault memory of your engine mangement unit. sounds like your throttle housung unit is more than likely your fault, but is impossible to know without using a diagnostic computor

I finally fixed this problem!  Not sure if it will work for everyone but it did for me.  My new mechanic said there is an electronic 10 pin connector hooked up to the throttle body and mine had 2-3 pins that weren't making a good connection....THAT'S IT!

SOURCE: my 323i bmw had eml

Yes, something is malfunctioning. I think the light means something is wrong with the ABS. Certainly wouldn't want to be without that.

Low coolant level or improper themostat are the primary causal reasons for this. if tou have no leakage on the under dash carpet your heater core is unlikely cause. Change you therostat if fluid level is o k easy repair on a 323
