sounds like the drivers side key switch has failed remove the interior door panel and there will be a switch attached to the back of the key lock cylinder or around there it should be two or three wires also check the door jamb wire harness where the door closes for any broken or damaged wires, use a vot meter and see if you get power or ground to the opposite side of the switch when you use the key to lock and unlock the door if nothing changes and there is power or ground! at this switch i would replace it, i don't think there is one but if the car has a passenger side key hole try to unlock the car from that side and see if you get the same problem -jeff

SOURCE: Malfunctioning car alarm 98 honda accord

For the system to arm, the ignition switch must be off and the key removed. Then, the multiplex control unit must receive signals that the doors, hood, and trunk lid are closed and locked. When everything is closed and locked, none of the control unit inputs are grounded.

The door switches, hood switch, trunk lid switch, door lock knob switches, and door lock cylinder switches are all open. Ten seconds after the doors are locked with the key or the lock knob, or immediately after locking the doors with the remote transmitter, the system arms.

If anything is opened or improperly unlocked after the system is armed, the control unit gets a ground signal from that switch, and the system is set off.

If one of the switches is misadjusted or there is a short in the system, the system will not arm. As long as the control unit continues to get a ground signal, it thinks the vehicle is not closed and locked and will not arm.

An alarm that sounds for no apparent reason may have been set off by a switch that is on the threshold of misadjustment. In this case, it may only take a significant change in outside temperature, the vibration of a passing truck, or someone bumping into the vehicle to make the alarm sound.

SOURCE: 2002 Honda Odyssey security alarm system

Make sure your hood is shut. I just got my 2002 Honda Odyssey back from the dealer today (90,000 mile check-up - I love my van and will drive it until it dies!) and when I went to lock the van with my remote transmitter, the lights didn't flash and the horn didn't sound. I open and closed all the doors and tailgate and I could hear that the doors were locked, but the security system wasn't working and that is why the lights didn't blink or the horn didn't sound. I walked up to the front of the van to check the hood to make sure it was closed (there isn't an indicator light for an open hood, only open doors) and the hood wasn't shut completely. Once I opened the hood and let it drop to securely shut, I hit the door lock button on the remote and everything worked like a charm! Hope this helps others in this predicament.

SOURCE: car alarm goes off for no reason

I had this same problem just today.Hhowever, I had the remote in my hand and it would not stop the honking!. Since I could get into the car, I released the hood, opened the master fuse box on the left side, and pulled the fuse labeled "Horn Relay".(On the upper left, there are three large, black, square fuses, it is the third and is labeled in the lid). I waited ten seconds and put the fuse back in, no more alarm, no more infernal honking.

What would make a red warning light shaped like a car with front doors open appear with loud alarm?

This indicates a door is ajar while moving (I think) and if none are, safety switch or door itself may be misadjusted.

My car alarm will not work (disarm) with the remote. when I use the key to open the door the alarm goes off and car won't start. I've repleaced the remote battery, with no luck. The red light on remote...

Here's how you fix this:
- Open the remote, and take a piece of paper (something small, I used a crushed straw wrapper) and put it on top of the battery. It needs to make the remote somewhat difficult to close, but it needs to close.
- Make sure the red light flashes EVERY time you press unlock/lock. Your car might lock/unlock now. If it doesn't, move on.
- Get into the car somehow. Yes, the alarm might go off. Ignore it, put the key in the ignition and turn it to ACC. Then and hold both buttons for a few seconds. The light should continuously flash.
- Turn the key off, and wait for the alarm to stop. Then press unlock. If it works, congrats! No more issue! If not, you may need to take it to the dealer for service.
I just fixed my remotes this way. The contacts wear out, and the battery box literally fell off of one of the remotes. Forcing the battery box against the circuit board is the free way to fix it. Remotes aren't too cheap! Good luck!
