SOURCE: left front axle seal

This is a fairly involved job. You will have to remove the brake assy, then seperate the ball joint and remove the axle assy. You will need a seal puller to remove the axle seal (At trans I assume) and a seal driver or something flat to install the seal. You will also need a 32mm socket ( if my memory is correct ) for the axle nut and a torx or hex socket for the brake caliper and a splitting fork for the balljoint. Be sure to tourque the axle nut to spec when reinstalling or you will be replacing a wheel bearing next. Hope this helps...Good Luck.

I04 Lincoln Navigator. Front differential pass seal leak. remove the drive shaft and unbolt the flange. the inner flange does not have a bolt to access the seal and bearing. How is the seal accessed?

If I understand you correctly the drive shaft you took out is actually a CV axle. The inner axle shaft goes into the diff. That is held in with a snap ring in the diff. It might not come out easy, sometimes they do, use a pry bar to pop it out. Be careful not to break or damage the aluminum housing. There have been times where I had to use a strong air hammer to beat on the back side of that flange to get the axle shaft out... It's sort of like taking a CV axle out of a front wheel drive car.

How do I replace my inner axle on the passenger side of my 2002 Dodge Ram 4x4 4.7L. I lent my truck out and the C clip let go of the CV axle. The intermediate axle spline is stripped and I need to change...

Lift and support front end on suitable jack stands preferably on frame. Remove right front cv axle, stub shaft, and seal. You will need to pull the right front brake caliper assembly loose and place to the side. Then remove bolts from shock and upper control arm and hub nut to do this. Next, remove axle lock actuator on passenger side of front axle. Place a drain pan underneath front diff cover and remove cover and drain axle. In the center of differential there will be an 8 mm head bolt holding spider gear cross-shaft. Remove bolt and cross-shaft only! Push inner axle in until clip clears inside of passenger spider gear. Set clip aside and push/pull axle shaft straight out to passenger side.

Open the bell. Take off the rear gear cover. U will loose all the fluid if any still in it so only remove some of the bolts loosen leave like 3 in around the bottom loosen them out a oil pan under the cover pry the cover off the diff leaving the 3 bolts to keep the cover from just popping off it will also help slow the rush of fluid. Once the fluid is drained remove the bolts and cover. On the inside u will se side gears. Have a helper push the axle shaft inward then u will see there is a C clip holding the axle carfully pry off the clip. Only do one side at a time. ... Then slide the shaft out where ur helper is. .. remove and replace the leaking seal. Then clean the axle. And u have to be easy sliding it in. Some times when the axle shaft is slide in u hit the end of the tube push the axle down toward the ground with variety of pressure as u push in this is tricky. But it will pop in. Then replace the clip and gentle have a helper try and pull back on the shaft. This sets the clip from falling out. Clean the bell area and scrap the old gasket off both sides if u have no replacement gasket get high heat black rtv silcone apply it to the cover or diff face and reverse the steps to install fill it with fluid and road test all this can be seen on youtube under inner axle seal repair. Good luck.

Change front differential seals in 1996 gm sierra

In order to replace the seals, remove the front diff assembly. To remove the passenger side seal, I would suggest removing the tube assembly (5 bolts). This is due to a steel washer that goes on the end of the axle. If you just pop the axle out, it is tough to get the washer aligned and back on the shaft. Use anerobic sealer to seal the housing to the diff case. The drivers side you can pop out with a hammer.
