Press the brake, wiggle the steering wheel back and forth, and turn the key, sometimes the pin that locks the steering wheel gets stuck if the car is shut off with the wheels in a bind. I hope this is helpful.

SOURCE: check engine light on in 2001 subaru outback - car

If the light was flashing when it came on, then it means your engine is misfiring.

A solid light can mean anything from a loose/faulty gas cap to a transmission issue.

This light comes on when the computer detects a fault of some sort in its diagnostic tests. If it keeps detecting this issue, the light will remain on. If the light turns off, then it has detected that the issue may no longer be present.

In order to find out what the exact reason was for your light, You need to have your car computer scanned to retrieve the code that the computer would have stored when the light triggered. Most garages will do this free of charge. The code will tell you what may have caused the light to initially turn on.

SOURCE: 2001 SUBARU OUTBACK, MARKER LIGHTS STAY ON WITH

The first thing I would check is on top of the steering column is a flip switch. Please flip switch. That is put there so you may have the marker lights on in case of emergency. Hope this helps and have a great day.

What should we do?

Hi there,
There is a (silly) safety lock on the ignition to stop it starting in gear, or the key being removed if not in park, and a sensible safety lock on the gear shift to stop kids letting it roll down a hill. Try putting your foot firmly on the brake, press the park release button beside the gear shift, while pulling the shifter out of park and back into park.
Getting the key out: Sometimes the steering wheel is placing pressure on the steering lock and key release mechanism, so try turning the steering wheel in any direction it can go while trying to release the key. It should come only out when you are in park.

Can't get the ignition key out of my Subaru Outback

push the shift lever into park and then try again. If that does not work, then your park indicator?Key release switch went bad.

2001 subaru outback parking lights stay on with key off

Go to Autozone, com and register your car on their site. They have fusebox layouts. It sounds like a relay is sticking in the light relays.

I hope my solution is helpful.

2001 Subaru outback driver side windshield wiper goes to far to the outside tears up the end of the blade - ideas please

I have the same problem with a 2001 Legacy wagon. The problem is not as simple as the solutions above. Mine are adjusted to park as low as possible when off. Even so, the blade on the drivers side goes all the way off the windshield. The Subaru dealer wants to replace the whole wiper blade transmission for about $450. Looking online it seems to be interconnecting arms and pivot points that connect the motor to the wiper blade arms.
