So you are saying, A/T transmission problems.
do elaborate, its a complex system there.
does reverse work ok.
did you check fuses first.
then check AFT fluid levels using oper guide method not guessing?
scan it yet, using any cheap scan tool (you or any shop)
if you see p07xx errors (DTC) those are real, post em.
last is a full flush and filter. inside,

the transmisson may be electronically shifted, like the AW4 is,
you never stated what trans is there, and that does matter.
if inputs to the TCM are wrong it will not shift at all.

SOURCE: 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Shifting Problems

Check the Trans fluid level with it running and at operating temperature. Jeep NAG1 transmissions are known to have the input electric seal leak trans fluid. Not an exspensive fix add Mopar ATF4 and then relace the guild seal.

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee put in drive then turn it off restart it put in drive then drive turn to 3 feels like stuck on low gear

The transmission is going into limp mode. You need a special scan tool capable of communicating with the transmission control module in order to find out what is causing the problem

What are the symptoms of a speed sensor going bad on a 1997 jeep grand cherokee laredo 6 cyl.

Since alot of things rely on data from the speed sensor you will "usually" get an ABS alarm, little or no shifting,no indication of speed on the speedometer, and the check engine light. without the abs light and with a speed indicated I would lean toward a transmission problem

I have a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, 6 cyl. It will stall while I am driving, and may restart right away or may not restart for 20 minutes. I keep hearing this is a common problem for these Jeeps...

check fuel pressure regulator.....Fuel on one side of diaphrag, and vacuum pressure on other if there is fuel on the vacuum side then diaphragm is leaking...causing ecu to think there is plenty of pressure and holds back the signal to turn on fuel pump....

1997 jeep grand Cherokee dies while driving.Somtime starts right up,somtime not.Changed air filter, spark plugs,wires,d-cap, ignition coil, map sensor and computer.Latley I've noticed that I'm not getting...

If the ignition turns on and dies while driving, you might have a clogged idle air control valve. The valve is located in the throtle body, just below the air intake hose. Locate the idle air control valve, un plug the connector, unscrew it (you will need star screw driver) and next clean it using an electronic contact cleaner spray, I use 3M for that. Next, make sure all cleaning liquid inside is gone (it evaporates quickly) and re assemble it. This should solve your problem once for all.

My Jeep Grand Cherokee car cuts of

Likely the ignition system is shutting down. Code tests must be done as well as individual component tests, using a digital multi-meter and a manual such as chilton or haynes as a guide. The small explosion you hear likely is from a small amount of unburned fuel entering the hot exhaust and exploding right after the ignition is off. Once you fix the cause of shutdown that will disappear. The main items I'd test first are the crank sensor, cam sensor and the ignition switch itself, any of which can cause a shutdown. Also make sure the fuel pump isn't getting hot and turning itself off.

Try to check the trans mission gears of your 1995 jeep grand cherokee. The shift fork and the clutch sleeve of the trans mission is locking to the other gears .And then also check the starter motor and its solenoid.if the starter motor solenoid is destroyed or worn out replace .

1997 Jeep 4.0 auto transmission

Yes you have a Transmission problem that is only going to get worse.
There is nothing to do now that will solve this problem. You can pull the dipstick and look/smell the fluid to verify this but unfortunately the only thing to do now is have the transmission rebuilt/replaced.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
