I can't pump gas in my 04 GMC Envoy, it keeps shutting off

It takes 20 minutes to fill up my 04 Envoy. The pump keeps stopping like it is full. With a full squeeze I get about 1-2 sec of gas in before it stops. I have to let the gas tickle in. I've tried the slow start then gradually increase, doesn't work. I've tried different angles, doesn't work. Nothing works! The service engine light comes on.

SOURCE: Landcruiser GXL 2002 Turbo Diesel - Fuel ? problem

I can only relate this problem to those similar to Ford F150's,,,on the fords it would be bad grounds from the battery to the frame, and engine,,and from the engine to the Firewall.
This would play havoc with the ECM especially when it was damp.
So i can only suggest the obvious to me at least.
Good luck to you.

SOURCE: Gas tank backs up when filling, shutting off hose

I have seen the same issue, the nozzles click off at some stations, others do not. One thing that I have tried and had a bit of success with is pressing the nozzle real tight against the filler hole. The rush of air coming up the filler neck is what clicks off the nozzle, not the fuel. So, pressing in tighter seems so let the pressure equalize in the filler neck. Try it, maybe it will work for you.

2006 GMC Envoy now hard to fill gas tank keeps stopping then finally when full doesn't want to start & struggles to stay running

After the pump stops the first time, how much more gas are you able to put in it? You shouldn't "top off" the tank because you can damage the vent.

If it keeps stopping when it's no where near full, I have a couple of links you can look at for a possibility. You can always call your dealer and see if there are any TSB's regarding this.

Changed plugs 04 envoy still hesitant between 20&30mph acceleration after that is slow too. Any answers?????

Wires, distributor, rotor, vacuum leak, O2 sensors, air filter, fuel filter, bad gas. old gas. Throttle positioning sensor, fuel regulator, weak fuel pump, dirty throttle body. Knock out all of the routine maintenance items, check for codes at advanced auto(even if your engine light is not on) and then re-evaluate it from there. And clean your fuel system at your next fill up with a can of B-12 Chem Tool from the additives section at Walmarts auto section.

ENVOY FUEL GUAGE PROBLEMS--- GAS GAUGE DOES NOT REGISTER ON FILL UP--- CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON WHEN YOU FILL UP -----THEN GOES OUT AFTER 1ST. 20 TO 40 MILES. BEN GOING ON FOR LONG TIME ONLY WORRY WHEN...

GMC sent me a letter saying that gas guage not working has been a problem and they will fix and pay half.
Also my mechanic says that it is common to get a check engine lite when you add gas to tank, especially when you fill it. Sometimes I will take off gas cap and let air out then replace cap and the check engine lite will go off. (usually). Nothing to worry about.

My engine service light keeps on coming on after the mechanic "sopposibly" fixed the problem. They change the Thermastat, water pump, and cleaned out the fuel pump. I can not put gas good it...

Bypass your mechanic and go to a place like Autozone that will check the codes that your service light is throwing for free. Let me know what code this is, and I can help from there.

As far as the other problem, there was a re-call on the filler neck with this year. Not sure if it's still active, but I had the same problem on my 03' Trailblazer, BUT that was back in 04' when they replaced the filler neck and it was all covered.

2004 chevy 2500 wont take gas into gas tank

I am having the same problem. When turning the pump on full speed it will pump for a few seconds before kicking the pump off like the tank is full even though there is no gas in the tank. I can pump gas if I barely start the pump and hold it by hand but very very slowly so it takes about 20 minutes to fill up. Its not the gas station or the way I am holding the nozzle as I have stopped 20 different places and tried every way imaginable to hold the nozzle. I have changed the filler neck, charcoal canister, and the sensor/filter that is on the side of it that I believe opens to allow fuel vapor to escape and let pressure off the tank when the truck is not running... still no luck. When I had the fuel next off there is a check valve that is made into the top next part of the tank that is spring loaded. I figured this was to keep gas from running back out in the event of a rollover and possibly keep someone from putting a hose down the next and stealing gas. At this point that is the only thing that could possibly be causing the pump to contiune to kick off every few seconds when filling up the tank. Next is to change the tank I suppose unless someone has already ran into this issue and can tell me what I need to do to fix the problem.
