The process is basically the same for any car or truck. Yours is an 8 cylinder engine, everything will have to be removed from the top of the engine and all wiring will have to be disconnected and moved to the side, You will have to remove the valve covers. If you have an overhead cam, in this car, you'll have to remove all the pulleys, water pump, AC unit and power steering unit from the front of the engine so you can then remove the timing cover. Remove the timing chain(s) and gear(s), you then can go after the head bolt removal.

If you do one head gasket, you may as well do the other one why you have the car tore down. If you have aluminum heads, you will most likely have to take the heads and have them milled (resurfaced) especially if you overheated the car when the head gasket blew.

For more detailed information, you really should buy yourself a repair manual so you can get torque specs on nuts and bolts and buy any specialty tools you may need to do the job.

2001 Oldsmobile Alero. How to change the head gasket on it please?

Can I replace a head gasket myself?

Head gasket replacement is not a job for the average do-it-yourselfer. While a head gasket expiring due to old age is rare, it usually means everything else is worn out to the point of replacement as well. Cracking the head off the engine and peering inside may reveal that everything else got fully cooked, too.

2001 jetta blown Head gasket what can I do

Blown head gasket is a big job, I have had great success using some of the head gasket sealers, These products are not 100 percent for sure fix but work most of the time if the directions are followed correctly. Bars liquid glass has fixed the head gaskets in two cars ive owned when it works, it a permenant seal. Follow directions, and its best to remove the thermostate when using head gasket sealers.

1988 Plymouth Reliant - blown head gasket ... only 89,000 original miles ... worth fixing or what ?? How do I fix a blown head gasket ? new motor ?

If the body is solid and the rest of the car is in decent shape, certainly fix it. Your best bet would be to pick up a Haynes repair manual for your car. It will have all the info, with pictures and drawings that you will need to do the job, including torque amounts. It'll probably take you a couple days at most and the parts are not expensive, just remember that a head gasket has a TOP and a BOTTOM. Also make sure the new one matches identically to the old one, the same holes in the same places.

Engine is overheating ,radiator is bubbling, and white smoke from my rear head. blown gasket? or cracked head. and what is the best stuff to use to fix blown gaskets

Blown head gaskets for sure, no way of knowing if heads are cracked without taking it apart, there no quick fix for this, only fix is to take it apart and repair as needed.

Head gasket blown

there are many was a head gasket can blow . sometimes they just leak to the outside sometimes they leak to the coolant and then it blows out your antifreeze. if you have a blown head gasket you will see it when you pull the head. and yes you should hace the head checked at a machine shop and install with a new head set never reuse a gasket .
