I have an 2002 Cavalier Z24. I recently brought it in for repairs. The Technician replaced the ECM/PCM and it's still acting the same way....the alternator just won't charge the battery. it's a new battery and a rebuilt alternator. Help???

Hey Joe , The first thing to do would be check for battery voltage on the heavier gage wire on the back of the alternator , if there is no voltage here there is a open circuit ! Which means the fusible link fried . This wire comes from the starter ! This charging system is controlled by the PCM , but they are rarely the problem . Do you have the charge indicator lit on the dash ? Do you have a check engine light on ? This system can set DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes !
DTC B1328 DTC P0562 DTC P0563 DTC P0621 DTC P0622

To much gas going thru the exhaust. probably the #2 miss fire. Before you change plugs, make sure you have fire to cylinder #2. You could have a bad coil or ignition module. Also check the condition of the plug wire. You can change these if you like , but it may not be necessary.

My 88 cavalier z24 starts to run rough as it warms up it is throwing ecm code 43. what is esc and how do you fix low voltage to it

Electronic Spark Control runs a self check and it failed the check. You need to replace the HEI module inside the distributor, check all the wires and connectors for rust and clean as needed.

the pcm may have a cracked board, i had an 88 cavalier z24 with the same problem, replced the ecu and it ran fine, the problem is that the boards inside the pcm crack and lose connection, the next time it acts up open the glove box and try tapping on the pcm, if the car responds at all, the pcm is bad
