SOURCE: 1997 pontiac sunfire key wont turn in ignition

You will have to have the ignition cylinder replaced in the car. The only thing that keeps that ignition from turning is a little tang on the sdie of it. The only way that tang moves is by the tumblers inside the cylinder moving it. They will have a hard time replacing it too as they can't remove the cylinder from the bore until it is in the "run" position. Obviously there are ways to get them out but it usually involves using half the tools of a good tech's toolbox. if it is towed the towtruck driver will have to use dolly wheels or remove the shifter cable at the transmission to get it to move as it will be stuck in park- unless is a standard shift.
I am sorry for the bad news. Get a second opinion from somebody that can put their hands on it , but it sounds like you have a tried all or most of the tricks.
Good luck...........Scott

SOURCE: 98 buick regal ls - po442 obd code

Usually the source of the leak is the gas cap (either loose or defective) but if that doesn't apply to your issue then the canister is next to the gas tank.

SOURCE: adding transmission fluid to 98 pontiac sunfire

There is a plug located on top of the transmission under the brake master cylinder. It is held in place by a bolt on the side of the transmission near the firewall. Remove the bolt, then remove the plug. Fill it until the fluid comes out of the hole.

Looking to do a motor swap in a 98 sunfire...what motors fit?

It is true, you can only put another 98 2.2 liter in it. They did come with a 2.4 liter but you have to swap the motor, transmission, wiring harness, computer, and God knows what else. I would go with the 2.2 liter and check into some performance aftermarket parts for the 2.2, computer chip, performance exhaust and so on, somewhere like Summit Racing.

Call the salvage yard and tell them the year, make and the engine size and they will tell you if there are any other engines that will work on this model.Depending on the wire harness that is used will make a difference.Good luck.

if you had the starter recall done, there is a relay mounted near the center of the radiator that controls start power. Pontiac dealer sells the part.

Starter draging

If you're doing the mechanical work yourself, be careful, but you could try replacing the voltage regulator. I'm not sure where it would be in your car but auto parts store should have a "Chilton Manual" or "Hanes Manual" these books can tell you where EVERYTHING is and how to replace it.

Trying to read error codes 98 pont/sunfire 2.2l

You can't read the codes this way on 95 and newer cars and light trucks (OBD 2 system), you will have to either go to a Kragen auto where they will do it for free or buy a cheap code reader for about $30-40.
