How to put the jack in its place? - 2000 GMC Yukon

You can place a jack anywhere on the frame. Don't work underneath your car unless you also put jack stands under it in case the jack fails.

place the trolley jack under the front cross member . (The big bit that connects the side frames under the sump). Lift as high as possible and place the jack stands under the chassis ( moulded rails ) where the sub-frame meets . Then place the trolley jack under the rear diff and lift as high as possible Place the jack stands under the chassis at the front of the springs or track rods By using these positions you will have the cabin securely jacked up with all the wheels free to remove or to work on. Before going under try rocking the vehicle hard to ensure that it will not move off the stands.

There are car ramps that give enough clearance to be able to remove tranny from beneath vehicle. Most jack stands are too short for same. in the past I have had to do this, and with car not moving, required jacking truck up jjust to get ramps in place under tires. not fun but possible.

The best way is to jack up the truck frame (not the axle) high enough to pull the tires off. Put the frame on stands and secure it. Pull the tire/wheels off the side you want to replace the springs on, and then put a jack under the axle to support it once you pull the springs out. The easy way is to just cut all the U bolts with a torch. But, if you need to reuse them, heat the nuts to red hot, throw water on them to cool them off, spray everything down good with wd40 and remove them with a air impact wrench. Once your springs are free from the axle, You may need a bottle jack to jack down the axle to make room to pull them out. Set the new springs in place, remove the bottle jack and jack up on the axle to jack it back into place, putting some pressure on the spring and bolt it all back in place. Hope this helps Fix Ya up.

if its a floor jack or the stock jack place it on the pince well at the bottom of door about 6 inch from frt of fender,put e-brake on when jacking car,heres a diagram to show you the four points, hope this helps.

make sure you claps the jack all the way down center the tier place the jack on the the tier in the center of the tier you should have a wooden cover place that on top of thatyou shoud have a funny looking screw center that and tighten that down

Put on e-brake and place jack under rear axle on the side of the wheel as close to it as you can

jack stands most times are placed under neath the axles however in your case the stands should be placed behind the front wheels on the spot where you whould place a regular jack if let's say you were changing a tire. if your working on the rear of the vehical you should put them under each side of rear axle.
