I'm hoping you found an answer to this already, but if not, here it is. Try looking at fuse # 16 in the fuse panel under the driver side dash. It should be a blue 15 Amp fuse & it controls the cigarette lighter & lift gate, amongst other things. My guess is that you will find it has popped & needs to be replaced. It's an easy job to do if you have a fuse holder or a pair of needle nose pliers. Out with the old, in with the new. IMHO, this is a poor deign by Lincoln in the fact that the change holder is right next to the cigarette lighter & if you happen to drop a penny or dime into the lighter/outlet, it pops the fuse. This can be a common problem if you don't keep the lighter in there, & use the outlet for cell phone charger, ipod, etc. This has happened to me a couple times, so I bought a small box of fuses & keep them in the glove compartment now, just in case it should happen while I'm out & about somewhere. Hope this helps!...//TJ

2008 Jeep says lift gate open but it's not. Interior lights stay on

This sounds like a signal/switch issue. Check the tail lift switch. It may be a button built into either the tailgate or the frame it sits in. It'll will probably be a spring loaded button that is pushed in when the lift gate is closed.
Also check the wire harness that feeds from the body to the lift gate. These flex every time you open and close the lift gate so the wires inside can wear out or snap over time.

Need to replace the liftgate switch, where can I get instructions to do that?

How do you know it need's a switch ?
Rear Hatch/Gate Description and Operation
The lift gate can be opened by operating the switch on the instrument panel. Battery voltage is supplied to the lift gate actuator through the body control module (BCM). The BCM will pulse the lift gate actuator when a release input is received through the key fob, or the instrument panel switch. Did you test voltages ? Check for BCM DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes ?
Circuit/System Description
The lift gate switch is an input to the body control module (BCM). The BCM supplies battery voltage to the signal circuit and when the lift gate switch is activated the signal circuit voltage goes low. The BCM controls the lift gate release actuator assembly through the LIFTGATE relay. When the lift gate switch signal is activated, the BCM enables the LIFTGATE relay by applying battery voltage to the lift gate relay circuit and the relay is energized when the BCM grounds the LIFTGATE relay control circuit. When the relay is energized battery voltage is supplied to the lift gate release actuator assembly through the lift gate release actuator control circuit.

Rear hatch keeps opens while driving...

Unless you have electrical diagnostic skills , I suggest you take this to the dealer ! The lift gate can be opened by operating the switch on the instrument panel. Battery voltage is supplied to the liftgate actuator through the body control module (BCM). The BCM will pulse the lift gate actuator when a release input is received through the key fob, or the instrument panel switch.
The body control module (BCM) receives an input from the liftgate ajar assembly. The ajar assembly is normally open when the liftgate is fully closed. When the liftgate is opened, the ajar assembly contacts close providing a path to ground. The driver information center (DIC) illuminates the rear access open message when the gate is open. The instrument panel cluster (IPC) receives a serial data message from the BCM indicating the liftgate ajar status. If this message is displayed and the vehicle speed is greater than 8 km/h (5 mph), a chime will sound.
It could be ajar switch is bad .

Liftgate won't open automatically

To open the lift gate manually, use the door unlock switch located on the drivers door. This should unlock the lift gate as well. Go to the lift gate and lift the handle to open the rear gate.

Your power lift gate is computer controlled. Sometimes there will be a faulty input sensor or part that will show the incorrect data to the computer, therefore the computer will not go through its normal functions.
In most cases its the problem of lift gate latch assembly.

To get it tested and confirmed there is a troubleshoot guide provided by the service center. To perform this troubleshooting guide you will require a scan tool to diagnose the exact problem.

the troubleshooting procedure is as follows:---

Please use the following information below when diagnosing an inoperative lift gate. Disconnect the connector at the lift gate latch assembly. With the lift gate latch connector disconnected, the 3 signals for the ratchet, pawl, and the sector should be inactive on the scan tool.

Install a 3A fused jumper wire between each signal circuit terminal (for the pawl, sector, and ratchet) and the ground circuit terminal 2. Monitor the scan tool as each individual circuit is jumped to ground, the scan tool should read "active".

If either tests above fails, check the wiring for the signal circuits, low reference circuit, or try a power lift gate control module from a known good vehicle. If both tests above pass, monitor the internal switch inputs in the lift gate latch assembly for proper operation.

3. A) with the lift gate in the open position, the ratchet and the pawl should read "active" and the sector should read "inactive"

B) With the lift gate in the secondary latched position, the pawl should read "Inactive" and the ratchet and sector should read "active"

C) With the lift gate fully closed, the pawl, ratchet, and the sector should all read "inactive".

4.If one of the internal lift gate latch assembly switch inputs are not reading correctly in one of the positions above and the vehicles passes test 1 and 2 above. Replace the lift gate latch assembly.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

This should help you.Thanks.Helpmech.

It seems that I have a short in my wires. My tail lights wont stay on. My problem is the lift gate is stuck and I cannot access the lights. When u use the remote to open the doors it makes a funny sound....

You should be able to remove the trimpanel on the lift-gate. then at the location of the striker in the middle-bottom of lift-gate you should be able to access a rod. Grab the rod with pliers, if pliers won,t fit the rod connects to a metal lever attached to the striker assembly, pry the lever away from the striker and this should release you gate....Good Luck!!!

Lift gate wont open

OK, this minor collision may have shifted the actual clip and latch assembly. You may have to totally disassemble the latch assembly to release this lift gate.

Any kind of major or minor shifting of the lift gate lock latch assembly can cause misalignment that will jam this delicate precise locking mechanism.

Display console

There is a switch in the lift gate latch that closes when the gate is closed and turns off the light, this switch is defective, replace it and the light will go off.
