I recently bought a 1983 Mazda Rx7 and its not starting i bought a new starter and installed it when i tried to turn it on it didnt turn over. It then started to smoke by the carburetor. Every time i tried to turn it on it would always smoke from there! If anybody could help that would be great!
Clean your carburator/ spray cleaner, and turn left or right you rotor.
Check if exaust is blocked

NOW YOU HAVE TO FIGUAR OUT WHERE DO I START,1- GAS FILTER GAS PUMP, GAS TANK- -DOES IT HAVE ANY GUNK? 2-DOSE THE CARBURETOR NEED CLEANIG OR ADJUSTING OR REBUILDING ? 3-HOSES 4-DOES THE ENGINE HAVE GOOD COMPRESSION 5-RADIATOR AND COOLING SYSTEM? OIL LEAKS CHECK OIL PAN SEE THAT THERE IS NO WATER IN IT.THESE ARE THE THINGS THAT NEED AN INSPECTION..I WOULD START FIRST BY CHECKING ENGINE COMPRESSION YOU NEED A PRESSURE GAUGE IF YOU HAVE ONE OR BUY ONE AT AUTO ZONE IS BEST TO BUY THE TYPE OF GAUGE THAT SCREWS IN THE PISTON HOLE. IF YOU BUY ONE ASK A SERVICEMEN FROM AUTO FOR INSTRUCTIONS...

i had something like that happen to my truck. died on freeway, after sitting for four hours it started up and ran fine, one little rectifier in the wiring harness just got hot and killed power to the computer,

make sure you tune it up well and take your time with it you can all so add a bit of ATF in to the spark plug hole. it help lube yes it going to smoke be it ok.i work on them for a for a living from stock rebuild to full racing.

bastard things are prone to flooding im afraid, take plugs out,whizz it over for 30 seconds be patient and wait for half hour to give time to dry out, then a couple of squirts of oil in each plug hole, whizz it over for about 2 seconds,then a couple more squirts of oil in each plughole again,replace (dry) sparkplugs, leads on turn it over and it should go.ive suffered this twice this year (in the rain).

avoid this problem by NOT RUNNING for LESS THAN 5 MINIUTS,as this is caused by a rush ov petrol because ecu thinks engine is cold so injects more fuel, then you turn engine off,this rush of petrol rinses the rotors clean of the oil they depend upon to maintain compression upon restarting, this is where the proceedure above works.

SOURCE: how do i install a new starter motor on a 1982
unhook battery cable. there are only 2 bolts holding the starter in. you will need 14mm wrench and 14mm and/ or 17mm sockets, I think 1 bolt will have a nut on the end as it goes through. after that the start will hang and the wires are easily taken off.

With out being able to see the vehicle it is hard to say. What color is it? What does it smell like? Where exactly is it coming from? Is the engine running?
