To add, nissan on the days of OBD 1, had a CONSULT port

Nissan Consult OBD 1 OBD1 14 PINS USB 19892000 DDL Scantool interface

the other old-school way was to access the ECU of the vehicle itself & turn the screws to set it to "trouble code mode" and watch the flashing LEDs and count them...

No, the plus is not the same. The data is not fed as a stream in the early obd readers.

This GM's definition of this code:
P1404 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Closed Position Performance
The most common reasons are either the EGR valve position sensor is defective, or the EGR valve is not fully closed due to carbon.

SOURCE: OBD II code P0406. Any solutions?

This has to do with the EGR postion sensor. Check the connection first. If connection is ok, replace the sensor.

Where do i plug in a code reader on a 1993 lincoln town car?

flyersqod, I believe that you have an OBD II code reader which is what is being sold to the public. OBD II starts with vehicles that were manufactured in 1996 and later and it mandated that all vehicles have a universal plug-in adapter to accommodate the scanners. Pre-1996 vehicles had a different plug-in for their respective makes. GM, Ford and Chrysler as well as all the foreign models all had different plug-ins. This is the case with your 1993 Town Car. The plug-in for your vehicle is located in the engine compartment and has two plugs on it. This cannot be accessed by an OBD II reader. If you want your vehicle scanned you will have to take it somewhere that has an OBD I scanner. Good luck with this.

What kind of code reader should I buy for a 1995 Pontiac Trans Sport car?

May depend on manufacturer date. All domestic vehicles after 96 are OBD II.Some late production 95 models are OBD II. if your diagnostic connector is rounded oval shape its OBD II. If the diagnostic connector is rectangled it's OBD.
