Hoops, classic sign of blown head gasket between pots.
check to see if there is oil residue floating on top of your water in Radiator and also smell it if it smells of exhaust type of smell then that's a sure sign, do you keep having to top up rad if so sorry it's the head gasket.

Good luck.

SOURCE: white smoke comes out tail pipe

Its perfectly normal.Hot exhaust gases mixing with cold air and by products of the combustion process create the watery substance that you see spit out .Dual fuel (LPG,Hydrogen etc) vehicles do this a lot more noticably.By products of the combustion process are various but water vapour is one of them.Alot of heat is generated by the exhaust so watching a car driving in very cold conditions you can see this effect more clearly

SOURCE: grand jeep cherokee 1997 white smoke /tail pipe

Two choice:
1. Inspect the Head Gasket; Cause: head gasket leaking coolant into cylinders
2. inspect the Engine; Cause: Cracked block leaking coolant into cylinders.

Coolant is not a flammable liquid, therefore a lot of coolant in cylinder creates starting problem. You should check your engine and the coolant system for this issue.

The first thing you can do is check the oil dipstick - you're looking for a milky brown color as opposed to a dark brown (normal) color for oil - unless you've recently had an oil change - then it will be like honey. If you don't see any discoloration - I would then look around the the bottom of the area where the valve covers are located - the valve covers sit atop the heads and if you have a "blown" head gasket - you may see evidence of water/coolant seepage. You can also take the vehicle to a mechanic, who can do a simple test using air pressure to isolate a potential gasket issue.

Good luck (remember rated this post).

Hello there,
It seems that you may face a problem with your car. Types of
smokes coming out of tail pipe are as follows:
WHITE - Water coolant leaking into engine or Cracked
Cylinder head.
BLUE - Oil leaking in to combustion chambers that is an
Engine problem. Piston Ring faulty
BLACK - Engine is flooded with Gas. Clogged Air Filter
GREY - Trouble in Transmission Fluid. Faulty Vacuum
Modulator.

88 thunderbird white smoke and water coming from tail pipe

Possibly a blown head gasket, letting coolant into the cylinders to be burned. White smoke is usually coolant burning. Have the engine's compression tested to verify.

Upon starting the 1995 Camry the engine dies. There is also grey smoke coming from the tail pipe. Checked the oil and there is no water in it.

Is it gray, bluish gray, or white? White smoke, during warm weather, indicates that you have a head gasket out and it's vaporizing water, it will look much like it does when you first start it on a cold day. Bluish gray indicates burning oil, which could be bad valve seating, severe engine wear on your piston rings and oil is blowing past them into the combustion chamber. Grey smoke is probably water as well, though it could be contaminated with oil, or the vehicle could be running too rich, getting too much gasoline. But typically this is more of a black smoke than gray.
