You need to locate the two fuse blocks, and a 'separate sheet' listing the fuse block function and amperage. Locate the lighter plug, then reference the location and value for replacement.

Where is the fuse for cigarette lighter for BMW 2000 5 D series
The lighters frequently burn out after a couple of years but you may still have power to the socket. Plug the charger in and check that the charge indicator light comes on. If it does your fine. If not you'll need to remove the socket and check the wires attached to it.
