Odds are you can't. The ac compressor is mounted in the belt routing so it would need the pulley to keep the belt tight.
You can get a used compressor from a salvage yard and mount it in place of your old part if necessary. It will allow the belt to run even if it has no freon in the system.
There are a few vehicles that a replacement dummy pulley was designed for, but I am not aware of one for your vehicle. Usually if you try to run the belt without the compressor pulley, it will rub against something or not allow the belt to run in the right direction.

SOURCE: '93 Mercury Sable Serpentine Belt installation without using AC

You need to have an automotive technitian install a new belt because there is a certain path the belt must follow before it will go on, plus the belt must go around the A/c as it is part of the path. You just don't have to use the A/C.

Tell the tech that the belt broke so that he can look for a reason as to why the belt broke.

SOURCE: air compreser froze

yes remove the wire plug off the front of the compressor near where the belt goes.If it is stuck take a pry bar and un stick it,do not put the wire back on.The clutch is maganetized and the bearings are froze up.Usually this will work. If not You will have to either get one from the junk yard and put it on.Or fix your car the right way.

SOURCE: The serpentine belt routing diagram

Rather than by pass the AC pulley You can actually buy a dummy pulley. It has the same position and size as the the AC pulley but has a frame instead of the AC assembly. In this way you can remove the A and keep all belts etc. the same. The following site has a diagrams for the '95 marquis belt route:- http://www.bestvalueautoparts.com/Replacement_Parts/MERCURY/GRAND_MARQUIS/Illust_c_Belt_Routing.html

How do I replace a serpentine belt by passing the air conditioner .... I am not adding a pulley I want to bypass it all together

Even if the belt did not rub against something by skipping a pulley, it would be almost impossible to know the right size belt to use.

Do I have to remove the air conditioner compressor on a 1996 buick roadmaster so I can install a air conditioner bypass pulley for serpentine belt?

Yes, the bypass pulley fits into the same area that the compressor will have to be removed from.

If it's for fuel efficiency, some people just remove the wiring/plug from the compressor and tape it to the side so that it won't engage, if the clutch isn't damaged it's the same as using a bypass pulley.

Also, the clutch can be replaced and used instead of the bypass pulley, in the event it is bad, retaining the ability to go back to an A/C system should you ever desire.

Good luck !

Air conditioner seized, is there a serpentine belt i can put on to bypass the air conditioner, cannnot afford to get the air fixed, need transportation asap.

Hello Bernie, If the compresser is locked up, but the electric clutch will still spin free, then simply disconnect power to it, just thought i would mention that in case that was problem.

The way the belt is routed, it is hard to get the proper tension on the belt by using a shorter belt. It's a trial an error ordeal of trying many different lengths of belts until you find the right one, if at all.

There is also a bypass pulley that you can purchase that will mount in place of the seized AC compressor on the 3.0 litre engine---It will bolt in to place with the orginal bolts and you can retain the use of the orginal belt. No cutting, drilling or other modifications required.

Good luck, & i hope this helps FixYa!

My compressor is bad on my 2000 pontiac sunfire 2.4, i am wanting to bypass the belt with a new (smaller belt) can u please tell me what size i will need

Hi,

What you are looking for is called an 'air conditioner compressor bypass pulley'. Most chain auto parts stores have them in stock.

All you do is install the bypass pulley and use a shorter belt.

The only downside is the cost of $25-$40. That's about one-third the cost of a remanufactured unit and the labor is compatible.

All the best

New serpentine belt smoking on 02 zx2

Check to make sure all the idler and other belt pulleys turn freely. It's possible that one of the pulley bearings is locked up which will cause the belt to smoke and fail as it slides over the siezed pulley.
