Question about 2002 Land Rover Freelander

1 Answer

My 2002 automatic Land Rover Freelander starts just fine, idles fine, reverses fine -- when you shift into drive the RPM go way up, but the car won't move... it will only move in a very low gear. The car stops when going up even the slightest hill. Check engine light is on. HDC light is on when the car is in drive.

SOURCE: Automatic vehicle stalls at low rpm

This is proplem with the IAC valve , try clean the valve and if that doesnt work replace it.

An IAC (idle air control) motor is designed to adjust the engine idle RPM speed by opening and closing an air bypass passage inside the throttle body

disconnect your MAF sensor and turn it on and see if it runs with out stalling. if it does, replace your MAF sensor, do not run your vehicle without it.

Connect four wheel drive for a freelander land rover 2005

The Freelander, along with all Land Rovers are permanently in 4 wheel drive: You need to take the car to a workshop to see what is happening. Freelanders have big problems with the transfer box, this maybe the problem. When you reverse the car and put the car steering to full lock whilst reversing, do you feel that the car is blocking or binding, as though you have the brakes on. If so this is an indication that the transfer box is faulty. These boxes cannot be repaired, replacement only and are quite expensive.
Hope this helps
