I have a 02 Grand caravan that has new radiator, termostat, one new fan. the temp gauge goes up to max hot the drops right back down in seconds. what could be the problem?

I let it sit running in the yard an it doesn't do that temp gauge thing. I just replace radiator, thermostat, on one fan. Fan blade broke an but a hole in radiator that why I changed everything. Heat works sometime and sometimes it doesn't.

It could be you have an air lock in the cooling system
remove the rad cap from the rad, start the engine and let it run until the coolant drops (add to fill it back up) or until the coolant boils out of the rad spout.

maybe pull the heat sensor. -replace it OR clean it off, reinstall it.

A lot of thermostats stay shut till operating temp is reached , then open in one movement , this is what happens, temp gauge goes up to hot, thermostat opens , cold water from radiator enters engine, temp gauge drops to cool, coolant circulates becomes worm . gauge raises to nun , every thing ok. Some thermostats are fitted with a bleed valve to over come this sudden movement, I have been known to drill a small hole in the thermostat so the coolant worms slowly.

My 2006 Caravan temperature gauge goes to red - engine is not overheating. Kick it into a lower gear (automatic trans) and the gauge comes back down. Is it likely the coolant sensor?

Could be.. is the system FULL? Air in it can cause some odd things. When engine and coolant are COLD (as in after sitting over night), open the radiator cap. Top off the overflow res with a 50/50 antifreeze / water mixture to HOT mark. Start engine, turn heat to hot and fan to high. Top off RADIATOR with same 50/50 mixture slowly & gradually. As the coolant circulates, it should bring any AIR trapped in the system (from heater core & engine block) to the radiator where you can replace it with the 50/50 mix. Once the coolant is HOT and stays level - about an inch under the opening, close the radiator. Monitor the overflow res and add as needed. Good luck!

My trooper 1999 has new radiator water pump and therostat. When I drive sometimes the gauge goes to 3/4 never to hot and then goes right back to normal. Seems like it does it when it's really hot out...

it may still have some air in the water system this can make the sensor rise and drop, raise the water level buy putting a funnel in the filler so the water is higher than the engine you will need to seal it so it dont leak. and larger the funnel the better. run engine up to temp and squeeze out the pipes on the radiator lines and any other pipe you can reach safely. let the engine cool down and remove the funnel the extra high with the funnel helps remove air pockets. should be a good 6 inches higher than the highest point on the engine.

2004 Impala ls temperature dash gauge

fans came late on those car, like 212 and second fan comes on at 224,you reprogram it to come a lot sooner,,other thing is there might be gunk inside the block, and coolant has hard time to pass through, and staying longer than enough in block temp goes high, even tough the radiator is doing it's job,it is just coming out block lot hotter than it suppose to be,and gauge read the block not the radiator

Temp gauge goes up to hot then back down only a few times

This is a sign that the thermostat is sticking shut and then opening after the temp gets past a certain point. If the heat gauge goes to high and then drops down suddenly, this is the likely culprit and you need to replace the thermostat - again.

I have had them arrive from the parts store and be defective.

Over heating on gauge, both fans on rad.

I would say check your coolant level, and change your thermostat. And see if it is high fans or low fans when they come on. There is a fan control relay down on the drivers side frame right under the air box that goes bad too if your fans arent working quite right to check if all else.

2001 grand caravan overheating. then suddenly cool

Change your thermostat before it sticks closed completely. Sticky thermostat is usually the cause.
Another possibility is that your radiator fan temperature switch is going bad. This is usually located next to the upper radiator hose at the gooseneck on your engine where the thermostat is located.

02 grand prix temp rises over 210 then drops back down. heater

dear friend-there is a couple of things you can do to find the problem, when the engine is cold remove the radiator cap start the engine then look inside to see if the water is circulating, all so look for bubbles in the water,if there is bubbles, you might have a blown head gasket,if there is circulation the water pump is ok,then get the engine up to working temp, then feel both the top and bottom radiator they should be the same temp,if not then the termostat is at fault

Engine overheats when heater pipes connected

I think you could be right about there being air trapped in the system.
Or the heater core(radiator) is plugged.
Either way you need a pressurized radiator coolant pump to put the coolant in without air being trapped.
Although,i have seen it done by jacking the vehicle up high enough that the radiator was now higher than the heater core level, and then the coolant was put in.
But this is dangerous to try.

94 jeep grand cherokee oil pressure and engine temp?

I'm guessing your engine is'nt making any tapping noise with the low oil press.
Your oil pressure sending unit is most likely the culprit.
Is your car smoking when the temp. goes up?
You engine could be air bound or thermostat could be opening too late (might need new one).
PLEASE DO NOT OPEN THE RADIATOR CAP WITH A HOT ENGINE.
