Our 97 1.3 litre Geo Metro LSI just died. It cranks over and you can smell fuel. The coil fuse under the dash keeps blowing. I have changed the cap, rotor, pugs, wire, and coil. The fuse still blows.
IG fuse powers: daytime running lamps(DRL) module; transaxle control module; A/C amplifier; main, fuel pump, and radiator fan relays; alternator; heated oxygen sensor; ignition coil, ignition noise suppressor; sensing and diagnostic module(airbag); audio alarm module; and just about every gage and light in the instrument panel; so there are no usual suspects. The best you can do is try to rule out these components one by one. There is a breaker you can buy that plugs in the fuse hole, that way you can **** around with it without wasting three dozen fuses.

Lay down along side the car by the drivers door. Look under the car and there is the fuel filter. It's strange by that's where it's located. Is your car a 1.3 L 4 cyl ? I know those engines like that back of my hand if you need further help.
old post.
metro , what engine, size?
answser
fuses check all fuse with a meter. !!! first. not last like 10,000 answers here.
the inectors go hot key on, if not the fuse is blown
the CEL dash lamp in the cluster must glow key on or the ECU is dead. (fuse)
ops i think you mean, I disconnected , rigth? and the wire hit ground and the switch was one the fuse will blow. its a huge fuse, and may take out others. up stream. the car has fuses under dash (cab) and under hood, one is blown.
The twenty amp maxi fuse in the under the hood fuse panel goes to, you guessed it, the fuel pump. It sounds to me like you have a short to ground in the wiring that keeps popping this fuse. Find and fix the short, or you will keep blowing fuses.
It could be the starter, test the small wire going to the starter, it should have power when turning the key to start/crank. If it does, and the starter will not crank the engine, whack it with a hammer, if it then starts, replace the starter. If there is no power to the starter, then it could be the ignition switch, or the neutral switch, or a fuse/link blown.
turns over and crank are the same thing, so you are saying it does crank over but no start, right? you need to determine if you have at least 50psi of fuel pressure in fuel rail at reed valve.
